Default Van Pelt a comeback at safety? Plummer visits Bowlen and other Post tidbits

See Mike Klis' article from the Post about Van Pelt, Plummer, and no established kickers brought in to challenge Prater:

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci...663?source=rss

----------

Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall to hear the Plummer/Bowlen conversation. I'm still not sure about Prater - I was hoping they'd bring in more competition for him.

i think the idea is similar to shanahan, when a position is so affected by mental blocks, like a skilled QB or kicker, sometimes showing confidence in them and removing competition rather then bringing in competition works out for the better.

Hmm, I wonder what Plummer and Bowlen had to say? Seems kinda randome just to mention a one sentance blurb at the end of an article....

Bowlen probably told him to knock off the Jeff George/Cutler comparsions!

Jake probably came back b/c his true beef was with Coach Shanahan, not the Broncos organization. No Shanahan, everything is good with the Broncos for him once more.

Dove Valley must be real anti-Shanny these days.

Jake is done.

Prater will get another year.

Guys that run in the 4.79-4.85 40 range don't play safety in the NFL.

i'd gladly welcome Jake back as a backup to Jay. and i would give Van Pelt a shot at Safety too, he was one of the most athletically gifted college players i have seen(granted he didn't have a great 40 time), and he has the NFL pedigree in his genetics. wouldn't be a bad thing to give the guy a shot. at the worst he doesn't make the roster and whatever he does he is better than the absolute garbage we had last season.

Plummer didn't like the Denver fans a whole lot either.

I still think he could find a starting job in the league if he wanted one. QB play is pretty terrible taken as a whole and he definitely brings something to the table. He must really hate football, because he was the perfect John Gruden QB. I think it would have worked out pretty well for him in TB for a while (until Gruden inevitably got bored with him and threw him under the bus.)

There's no chance BVP makes an NFL roster as a safety. He's been out of the league for a few years and he's never played the position in his life. Does anyone really think he can offer something at the position that college players actually playing safety couldn't?

its not that he hated football, but he hated all the stuff associated with it. didnt want to do the training camps, all the weightlifting (thought it was unnecessary) and hated feeling like **** after the season. said he loves having working joints and anyone who has seen john elway cant blame him, hes falling apart it looks like. he made a lot of money in the NFL then moved on when he didnt like it, cant really blame him.

Our D with Jake, won in spite of him many times. In 2005 Jake didn't have a ton of TO's so what we did get done on offense was complimented well by a stellar defense.

First off, Plummer isn't coming as a backup when you just paid Simms 3mill+ a yr for the job. Maybe that was sarcasm when mentioned, if so, disregard previous statement. Secondly, Plummer would've crashed and burned 4 games into the season with Gruden. Gruden doesn't tolerate mistakes and would've yanked him for the Mccown, Griese, whoever the back up was at that time. Van Pelt? Why even waste the time and energy to speculate?
