COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett writes that he's blogging from prison so others will learn from his wrong decisions.

The tailback who led the Buckeyes to the 2002 national championship is in the Toledo Correctional Institution on his 2006 conviction for aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.

In his first blog entry, Clarett said in October that defects in his character put him behind bars. This week, he wrote he's interested in public speaking once he's out.

He's serving at least 3½ years for a holdup outside a Columbus bar and a highway chase months later that ended with police finding loaded guns in his SUV.

Clarett doesn't have computer access in prison. His mother tells The Columbus Dispatch he phones the blog entries to relatives, who post them.

Today I dropped the soap. . . twice. Bubba wasn't too happy about this. I knew that much because of the swift brushes across my cheeks -- and I'm not talking about the ones on my face. I think it'll be safe to say I'll be walking with a limp for a week or so now. Looks like I'll have to pass on Pokey League Intramural Basketball for the evening and commit myself to basketweaving. Still can't believe Denver drafted me before Marion Barber or Chris Canty. Dallas knew what was up!

Anyhoo, time is running short. My current prison trade value today is a pack of Basic Cigs and a Hustler magazine. I wish I was worth more, but apparently I was never good at hitting holes.

i am upset we wated a 3rd on his ass, but had he kept his nose clean, it would have been a major steal and he would still be in blue and orange shedding defenses. dude had talent, just too bad he didn't have the brain or heart necessary to use the talent.

Well, admitting that his jail time is due to the defects in his character rather than blaming The Man at least shows some degree of contrition / maturity. Assuming he's sincere.

Yeah, because it's not possible for someone to make changes in their life and want to do some good.

Every bit of his previous behavior indicates that I am more correct than you are.

It is very difficult to change your life...to uproot who you were and plant yourself somewhere else.

Its not impossible, but its very hard...especially given the pressures of the environment that Clarett had enjoyed so thoroughly.

Oh give me a break. Prior to his 2006 meltdown the guy had one legal incident in his life (filing a false police report in 2003).

It's not like we're talking about a hardened criminal here with years and years of criminal activity.

Mo's name just came up in the Karl Paymah thread, which is in the Draft Room for some reason ... Point was, once Paymah signs with Baltimore or elsewhere, that's it for the '05 draft class. I'd love to have Chris Myers back ... and DWill

Anybody know ... was that '05 draft class Jim Goodman's first, or was it the next year?

It's easy to sound contrite and heading for the right track when you are behind bars and unable to have the freedom that you couldn't normally handle. His actions when he gets out will speak a lot more than some blogs.

just imagine the deal DWill would have been getting this offseason. if Foxy was worth 28million, DWill was easily worth 40million. in his rookie and sophomore seasons he was already twice as good as Paymah and Foxy ever became.
