Albert Haynesworth hit the free agent jackpot Friday morning by reaching a seven-year, $100 million deal with the Washington Redskins that could end up maxing out at at $115 million based on his performance, according to sources.

Haynesworth

The deal, which was reached early Friday morning, includes $41 million in guarantees. During the first 13 months of the contract, Haynesworth will earn approximately $32 million.
His phone almost exploded with opportunities Friday morning when free agency started. More teams contacted him than expected. During the first hour, Haynesworth had at least six teams willing to give him more than $30 million in guarantees.
He and his agent, Chad Speck, spent several hours reviewing the opportunities before making a decision. The final choices came down to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that had the most cap room in free agency, and the Redskins, the team that was the most aggressive.
A news conference will be scheduled upon his arrival in Washington.
The Tennessee Titans, the team Haynesworth played for in his first seven NFL seasons, never came close to signing him. A franchise player whose trip to the Pro Bowl prohibited the Titans from renewing the franchise tag in 2009, Haynesworth had hoped the Titans would offer him a deal that would have kept him out of the free agent market. That offer never materialized, even though the team kept talking to him until the start of free agency.
Fittingly, Haynesworth ended up being the first player to leave a team in free agency in 2009. His deal is one of the tops in the history of the league.
Haynesworth, led the Titans in 2008 with a career-high 8 sacks last season. He also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for a loss and forced a team-high four fumbles.

Plus, they overspent on DeAngelo Hall. HAll got another 30+ million gaurantee after OAK released him last year. This dude is definitely the most overpaid player in the NFL.....

Snyder, and I do not say this lightly, is a moron.

Geez! Hasn't Snyder learned his lesson? He just mortgaged the farm for one freaking player! They deserve the mediocrity they beg for.

With so many other holes to fill on that team, now what are they gonna do?

$8m in available cap room and they can dish out $154m to 2 players over 6 seasons. Cant wait to see how they fit both in.

Two, do not forget they signed Deangelo Hall, and both deals are frontloaded with Gauranteed money reportedly.

eddiemac, do not forget the non-capped years. The CBA agreement is in much jeopardy if they got these deals past the league IMHO.

The real winner of this thing.
How much money did this guy just make for a few hours of "work"? Dan Snyder, an agents best friend.

It's basically a 3yr $41m deal from what I'm reading which is actually less than what he was crying for.

DTs are notoriously bad FA investments. Some folks never learn, I guess.

Maybe the Redskins would Trade Jason Taylor to the Broncos for a 6 round pick now they shelled out all that money for Haynesworth.

Snyder always goes into FA with his ego and it shows. He wants to "win" the offseason and over-pays to do it. All it makes him look like is a moron.

FYI Rotoworld is reporting they've canceled their visit with Canty.

Exactly. Maybe not a bargain, but a pretty decent deal for arguably the most dominating player in the league today. I am thrilled that he didn't end up in Denver. Oddly it seems like most of you are, too. He probably would have messed up your defensive chemistry anyways.

My main thing is that, for whatever reason, DTs are notoriously bad FA investments. Big name DT signings almost always bust.

Man, you're really in full-on troll mode lately. I guess that's what happens when you have an aging 8-8 team with a closed window and a moronic head coach.

Bob Glauber (I don't know how to spell his last name. This is a guess) just said on ESPN first take that Snyder is just getting started and plans on going "really crazy" in an uncapped year. This ba*tard is going to ruin football, just wait and see. When him and ole dirt bag Al are through, water boys will get 12 mil per season.
