Default Raiders have released Gibril Wilson.

Gibril, Curry, Kalimba are released

One year after making him the third highest safety in the NFL, the Raiders have released Gibril Wilson.

The Raiders also released defensive end Kalimba Edwards and wide receiver Ronald Curry.

The Raiders had no explanation as to why Wilson was cut, but after signing Nnamdi Asomugha and Shane Lechler to big deals, the team needed to do somethign to create more salary cap-space.

Oddly enough, when DeAngelo Hall was waived last year, he called Wilson. Wilson said he thought Hall called to say he'd heard Wilson was being cut.

Of all the money the Raiders threw at players last offseason, Wilson appeared to be the one that had some level of success.

He finished second on the team with 129 tackles to go with two interceptions and 1.5 sacks.

Wilson's deal was for six years and worth up to $39 million with $16 million in guarantees.

This move probably means Michael Huff won't get his wish of being released. The team could put Tyvon Branch at strong safety if they don't want to put Huff back in that spot.

Edwards had five sacks, but none in his last six games he played in.

Curry has long expected to be released after going from starter to special teams player, to inactive last season.

I'll have more on this later.

Do we dare? He was a decent safety for NY. Not worth anything close to what he got from Oakland, but he's still a good S.

He's good enough to start at safety in the NFL. He's not a stud but I see him as a player that makes the plays he should make. If a defense makes the plays they should make they can usually be a good defense. Our defense missed more tackles then I can ever remember any defense missing. If there was a stat for missed tackles to go along with tackles it would be a great stat to look at. I'd say Broncos missed at least 100 tackles last yr. Tackles a team with even avg starters would make.

Wilson is for sure worth bringing in. Especially since Phillips, Brown and some of the other FA safetys are coming off injuries.

Also really Broncos need to sign 2 safety's, or draft one sign one etc. Considering the need to not look at Wilson would be crazy.

i would take a shot on Wilson and Curry. at the worst he is no good and we cut ties, but he could be a good number 3.

i would like to see Denver bring in at least 3 new Safeties into camp. Mike Brown(when healthy he is really good) James Sanders(i believe he will be a quick sign due to ties with McDaniels, and now Wilson and maybe even another draft pick to back them up along with barrett.

He is 210 pounds so prob big enough to help broncos outside on 3rd downs letting Royal got to the slot. I also like Brandon Jones from tenn at 6-1 212 as a potential depth 3rd wr.

We don't need to look for a stud just a steady WR with some size to go along with Marshall. I like Royal and Stokely as the smaller WR right now. Good mix of youth and vet in those 2.

I still remember that catch Curry made in the snow, in mile high, to beat Broncos on a monday night a few yrs back.

I thought Barrett looked really stiff and had slow hips. To the point i really don't ever expect to see him start in the NFL.

I'd rather Broncos not take chances on injured players at this point. Brown IMO is another Boss Bailey and a complete waste of time.

with his injury history Brown wouldn't be able to bargain for a huge deal, and because of that the risk would be low and possible rewards from having him if healthy would be high.

also when Brown is healthy he is really good, when Boss is healthy he still sucks

and with barrett, i think if given the opportunity and a little more coaching he could become a solid starter. he's never going to be a pro bowler, but he could be a solid guy and at worse a decent backup a and ST player

that's what i am thinking too. we don't need to go after a guy who is a star, just a dependable guy who will catch the ball when it comes to him. it would be nice to get a good deep threat for the offense. possibly someone like Lelie. he is a turd, but we could probably get him cheap and now we have the QB that is capable of hitting him in stride. and without Mike coaching he has no reason to try and avoid coming back to Denver, if we gave him a shot.

Jerry Porter caught the game winner.

Bring in-
FS James Sanders
SS/FS Sean Smith

Problem solved.

Then DEN could go after LBs and D-line players high in the draft, and sprinkle a RB in there.

different yr. I was talking about this catch.

In 2004, as the number 3 receiver behind Jerry Porter, he hauled in 50 receptions for 679 yards before injuring his Achilles tendon. Before his injury Curry had several big games including a 10 reception game against the red-hot Colts, a Raiders' season high. In addition, he recorded his first career 100-yard receiving game with 110 yards on six catches in Week 11 at Denver, then followed that up with a nine-catch, 141-yard performance the following week against Kansas City. He also won the Levitra NFL Play of the Week for his leaping, twisting, one-handed grab in the back of the end zone at Denver in a snowstorm.

i'm still shocked Asomughua signed there. i actually think he could have gotten a similar deal from a number of other teams needing a shut down corner that don't suck like the Raiders.

Similar total but not similar guarantee. The Raiders are so bad they have to completely **** over the contract situation for everybody just to have somebody stick around.

We're thinking we would like to have a relevant discussion on the topic at hand. We're thinking we would like somebody to stop hijacking every post on the Mane with obsessive ramblings and ranting about a man fired five weeks ago.

Bring him in he is steps above what we have now. Remember we have the Raiders old LB coach I bet he has something to say about if he is worth it or not.

yea but shanahan wasn't that bad really, we were close to winning, we shouldn't have fired him, our owner is a sell out drunk bum, the broncos are the bestest most wonderfulest team ever as long as shanny and the goodmans were here, the glory days were glorious, the reality is a much different story.

wake up zombies. stop complaining about the future

Who the **** is complaining about the future? It's as if you've gotten what you wanted and now that Shanahan is gone your like a machine trying to fulfill a purpose already fulfilled. You lash out at Shanahan and everybody on the Mane despite the fact that Shanahan is gone and nobody is actively defending or campaigning on his behalf. He didn't even come up in this conversation until you brought him up. WE are talking about safeties. What the **** are you talking about? Good lord do you have a book to sell or something?
