Default OT: Best and Worst Movies per genre

Admission is the first step to recovery or so I hear, so I am admitting right up front I really like horror movies, good, bad, really stupid which is what prompted this thread, I saw Friday the 13th last night as part of my girl's slumber party thing. Yeah, save yourself the money, it a typical mindless Michael Bay film. Other then production value improvement the film itself was still as dumb as the original (admittedly I was never a fan of the series, I thought it was a poor knock off of Halloween).

Anyway, so I thought I would pick random genres to start this off, if you think of others feel free to add them or whatever. I am certain I missing a lot, but it seemed like a good place to start a discussion.

Horror:
Best - Jaws, Psycho, Halloween (1978), Evil Dead and Evil Dead II
Worst - All the Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp series, oh so many....

Western:
Best: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Searchers,
Worst: If it has Kevin Costner in it, chances are it's overwrought and overacted, The Quick and the Dead (despite having many very good actors was kind of lame)

Crime Films:
Best: Public Enemy, The Godfather, Casino, Goodfellas, LA Confidential, Maltese Falcon, Anything with Robert Mitchum, Double Indemnity, Memento, The Usual Suspects
Worst: The Godfather Part III

Drama:
Best: Casablanca, Schindler's List
Worst: Titanic (I just think this film was way overrated, decent acting and great set design and FX, but the story made me think Harlequin Romance)

Comedy:
Best: This is Spinal Tap, Tropic of Thunder, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack
Worst: Porky's, Police Academy and sequels

Rom-Comedy (or chickflicks or bromances):
Best: Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday, The Princess Bride
Worst: A lot of Meg Ryan's stuff is whiny and sappy

Action:
Best: Casino Royale, Bourne Films, Batman Begins, Die Hard
Worst: Top Gun, A lot of sequels to decent original films (like Lethal Weapon 4, etc)

Honorable Mentions:
Best: Fellini pretty much all, Seven Samurai, Like Water for Chocolate, Rebecca, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Charade

Just off the top of my head...

Horror:
Best - Nightmare on Elm Street, Amityville Horror, Poltergeist (note, they all pretty much come from when I was a kid - now, horror films are just not that scary).
Worst - Pretty much most of them. Silent Night, Deadly Night comes to mind.

Western:
Best: Unforgiven
Worst: Brothers in Arms

Crime Films:
Best: Seven, The Usual Suspects
Worst: Nothing really comes to mind.

Drama:
Best: Shawshank; Cuckoo's Nest; Crash
Worst: Showgirls

Comedy:
Best: Big Lebowski
Worst: Leonard, Part Six (honestly, I think it's the worst movie I've ever seen)

Rom-Comedy (or chickflicks or bromances):
Best: Notting Hill (not sure why - just always liked it); She's Having a Baby
Worst: Fever F-ing Pitch

Action:
Best: Die Hard
Worst: Battlefield Earth

Black Hawk Down is probably the greatest war movie made in modern times.

Tombstone was a great Western too.

Okay. Though I am not a big fan of Dances with Wolves, I was actually thinking of Wyatt Earp, which I thought was overdone, except for Dennis Quaid. And I am not telling you not to like it. I know I like a lot of stuff that people don't and dislike a lot of things people really like (Titanic being one of those things I didn't like but most people do).

Seriously, it's all good, I like differing opinions and was hoping to start an interesting discussion (while perhaps getting some good recomendations) but the big f-u you just sent me seems a bit extreme.

Redneck Zombies is the worst movie ever made. I know the title should have given it away.

I forgot about that one. I like that too, but oh well, evidently now I am a trouble maker because I slammed the guy. I like Kevin Costner in some stuff I just think he has a limited range (he should not do accents, Robin Hood was hysterical because he kept switching his accent). I like him in Bull Durham, one of my favorite films actually and the Untouchables (not historically accurate by any means, but enjoyable to watch).

I cant even begin to think of this list, but I will say Titanic is def. not the worst drama ever. Far from it. Perhaps not as good as the hype, but not the worst ever.

Sorry Miss but Porky's first two were great comedies. I would add Revenge of the Nerds(I), Meet the Parents and My Cousin Vinnie. Most John Wayne movies for Westerns but add Big Red One and The Longest Day for Action/War to your list.
One of the worst films is Encino Man. I like Will Ferrell but I didnt get anything redeeming (for movie lines of course) from Step Brother. Glad that was only a $1 rental.

No. Costner has made some terrible films. He's not the worst actor out there, that title belongs to Keanu, but he is pretty bad in some of his roles.

Black Hawk Down was way better than Saving Private Ryan IMO. SPR had only a few scenes that matched the intensity that BHD kept up for the entire movie.

Star Wars changed the way movies are made. It's one of the best.

I donīt really know where Heat figures in here, but itīs one of my all-time favorite movies and you canīt really do much wrong when a movie has Robert de Niro and Al Pacino.

Man, Monsters, Inc. is the best animated film of all time.

It doesn't hurt that my son loved it, and it was at a time when I was just barely getting my feet under myself as a dad.
