Ravens release three-time Pro Bowl CB McAlister - The Orange Mane

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) - The Baltimore Ravens released cornerback Chris McAlister, a 10-year veteran and three-time Pro Bowler on Monday.

The 31-year-old McAlister, who started for Baltimore's Super Bowl winner in 2001, ranks third on the Ravens' career list with 26 interceptions and scored seven touchdowns for Baltimore - including a 107-yard return of a missed field goal.

He started five games last season before being benched and was placed on injured reserve with an injury to his right knee on Nov. 11. McAlister finished the season with three interceptions and 19 tackles.

McAlister was due to make $8 million this year.

"We want to thank Chris for all he did for the Ravens in the past 10 years," general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "He was a major contributor to many big wins, including the Super Bowl."

He's playmaker, but he also has a good front seven.

Dude is the king of the defensive holding penalty, but he is a good run-supporting CB.

He's the same as Bly. He just benifited from playing on the best defense in the NFL under the most creative, aggressive DC in football.

Instead of McCallister > Bly, you should have said Suggs > Ekuban.

I really do think Bly would be serviceable with a decent pass-rush. But, I wouldn't be opposed to some competition for him, either.

That said, it would have to come through the middle rounds of the draft. We can't afford to use any big FA$ or high draft picks on CBs right now.

Everyone bums on Bly, I think he was far from our worst problem and even played very well at times.

A pass rush makes Bly worth his money.

Yes he can, but I would expect him to try to play CB first before he makes that transition. I would be little wary of him, the last two season he not very health and is slowing down, like Law did. I think he would better in Cover 2 Zone team then a team that ask him to man up on #2 WR

Rod woodson as we all know added a couple years of making dough by switching. McCalister has to see the writeing on the wall...
