Default So I bought a turtle

The boy really wanted one and I thought what the hell how hard can it be to care for a ****ing turtle

Dont get me wrong it is pretty damn cool and I love all animals.

Here is the problem. The son of a b**** makes his tank & water smell up the whole freaking house within 2 days. I mean a nasty ass smell. I change the water every day or two and have a water filter thingy running 24/7

Any turtle experts got any advice

Plus they're dirty, they stink, and the tank requires at least a weekly cleaning.

No joke. Google search it. Turtles/reptiles carry salmonella in their feces. If you decide to keep it. Keep a huge bottle of sanitizer near by.

My wife bought two of those sliders on a street in LA (it was actually illegal because of how young they were). Bought them for $10, and $200 later we had a tank, filtration system and two warm turtles.

I'd say it's a good pet for the kids, although that salmonella is kinda scary. Doesn't take much to take care of them, just need to clean their tank and feed them. We finally just gave them away because they stink so bad and are basically worthless as a pet after about a month.

I owned a turtle as a kid. They're kind of cool, but they can be rough. Tortoises are easier because there is less water needed and you can keep them outside.
