That I have insulted a lot of soccer fans , for this i will apologize , I shouldnt make fun of a sissy sport , it is after all a sport people enjoy , while it will never be as masculine as Football , hockey , or boxing , it is a sport , and I apologize for ridiculing the sport .........

I don't mind Soccer either. I like to watch the world cup and half my family played it. But it's just so fun to make fun of. Soccer fans get so angry and the brow-beating about how the rest of the world loves it and so we must is the best. I offer no apology. If you weren't so insecure about it you wouldn't have a cow when people made fun of it.

Every game has something stupid about it. We know the flaws of football better than anyone. Soccer's flaw is it's mostly just guys running back and forth and therefore boring. Get over it.

I used to take offense, but then I realized everyone is entitled to their opinion. Who cares anymore. Soccer will be a third tier sport in the US as long as the big three rule the economic dollars.

Too bad the USA basketball program can no longer boast world domination like the dream team did back in Barcelona though. As for Football, it should be exported, but it costs too much for third world countries to play, unlike baseball. Hell, MLB and NHL have a ton of foreigners too.

QFT. It only takes a ball and two shirts to get a soccer game going--which is why the rest of the world naturally gravitates to it. Very low cost sport, generally.

NO one outside the US uses shinguards either for the most part growing up. Hell, I STILL can not feel anything below my knees anymore when I get hit or kicked by the kids. I got a scar on my leg a couple of months ago I never knew was bleeding until my daughter saw it!

I think any sport where men run around and grab other men's junk is just so typically Euro.

I agree about the boring nature of soccer.

But I do remember watching this happen live....

It felt so weird to gain a small measure of respect for a soccer player and a Frenchman at the same time.

This is just soooooo bizarre.

I love both sports. Yet both sports are so totally different.

And with all the yanks going on about how soft and pansy the "soccer" is, let me tell you that american football gets every bit as much ridicule in the rest of the workd for the fact that they wear pads (particularly from the rugby crowd).

For what its worth, I don't share that view - being truly independent I recognise that if it wasn't for the pads PEOPLE WOULD DIE, nevertheless, it still amusing. Plus that's not really the point. EVERY sport is a physical contest that requires a SPECIFIC TYPE of physical ability. Its absurd to suggest any one is 'harder' than the other.

The real point is that but for an accident of birth and geography, every single one of you ridiculing soccer for being a soft sport would be doing EXACTLY the same to your own game. Its just a cultural thing, which has much more to do with what you happen to grow up with than the sport itself
