EL PASO - An 18-wheeler was stopped near Fort Hancock after leading authorities on a more than 35-mile chase Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The pursuit began when the tractor-trailer allegedly tried to run other drivers off the road as it headed east on Interstate 10 and refused to pull over for El Paso County sheriff deputies near the Horizon Exit, sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jesse Tovar said.
Deputies blocked entrances into the freeway to keep other drivers out of harms way as the pursuit involving several patrol cars went eastward.

At about 1:45 p.m., Texas state troopers and Hudspeth County sheriff deputies took over the pursuit at the county line at milemarker 34 eventually stopping the vehicle at milemarker 72 near Fort Hancock, a Department of Public Safety dispatcher confirmed.

An investigation into why the vehicle refused to stop continues.
