Default Head Coach Interview Process.....

I was thinking about the process, Why cant NFL Commish have a rule saying they can only start the interview procedure only after pro-bowl ? The teams who ever wants to fire a coach can do it the day after the superbowl.

That way all the coaches and asst coaches will be free and it will present the asst coaches/other coaches on superbowl teams a oppurtunity to concentrate on games and not the interview process. After they fire, each team can setup the interview schedule with the coaches they prefer from day after the pro-bowl and they can put there staff up and line up for free agents fast. That gives all teams and all coaches equal oppurtunities to get the person they feel is right.

Just a thought, what do you all think ?

Not fair to teams that wanna get new coaches to work ASAP on personnel decisions. Senir Bowl practices started today ... if we didn't have McDaniels in place, our strategy there would be compromised.

Your idea sounds fair in principle, but the only people harmed right now the way things are, are assistants whose teams are in the playoffs ... and somehow they seem to interview anyway, like Spagnuolo did with us.

Bad idea, that gives teams who are not firing their coaches a month headstart on player evaluations etc. As with all rules put in place like this in the NFL, the rule will be circumvented and teams will hold "informal" talks with prospective candidates.

The problem with making a rule like that, that teams will break is that it gives a clear disadvantage to the odd honest team. It is just like the junior rule in the NCAA where juniors can't talk to agents, the honest agents lose their chance at getting the best recruits because the rule is largely circumvented.

I think you could only talk to coaches whos season is over. If a team is in a playoff run they need to be left alone but once bounced you can start the talks.

Anyway most of the teams get the GM and all the scouts organized before there headcoaching search. If the HC is coming later, cant the GM start the process ?
