mods if this was posted just merge, its getting confusing around here. A source also said the team will hire Dom Capers, who was the head coach of expansion teams Carolina and then Houston. He was an assistant/secondary coach with the Patriots this season after serving eight years as an NFL head coach. Last edited by wolf754life; 01-11-2009 at 09:20 PM.. |

People always leave out the fact that Dom was the D coordinator of a 1-15 Dolphins team a year ago.

Will he install the 3-4? Defenses wins games in the NFL as noted by 3 of last 4 playoff teams come from the top 3 defenses.
3-4 defensive teams end up with a record of 59-33 against 4-3 teams in 2008 regular season + playoffs. 2-0 in playoffs so far with SB to come. Seems like a definite advantage. |

He has been both good and bad. Been apart of a great fins defense, and then apart of a crap one.
I dont think the hire is terrible, but with the youth movement direction were going in I thought Mcdermont would be a great choice. Time to start preparing for the draft and reorganzing the defense though, so I guess time was a factor here. |

9news said that Nolan will be the DC and Capers will be on the staff...most likely as DB coach/Assistant Coach. same role he had in New England

Uh-oh we're making excuses for him already. I didn't see where it said he would be hired at D coord, just that he'd be hired.

We really needed a refocus on offense and a total rebuild of the defense. I was a Spags guy but this coaching staff is really what we needed. |

I'd take this or Spags and his D people handling the D along with our entire O-Staff heading up everything on the offense.

i am luke warm on Capers, been good and bad, i guess it just depends in which capacity he will be used, but i do like the Nolan signing. i am going to enjoy watching him screaming and pacing the sidelines getting on our defenses ass.

This year, the Dolphins just put in a pedestrian offense with very modest numbers, and you saw huge improvement. That wasn't because Capers left, it's because the D wasn't on the field the entire game. It's one thing to build a champion through defense, and it's another to have absolutely ZERO offense whatsoever. |
