Default Pat Bowlen Is A Great Owner

Like Shanny said in the presser, Bowlen runs the best organization in all of pro sports. He spends right up to the cap (and beyond, if he can) in order to field a winner, then gets out of the way and lets his football people do their jobs. As a fan, what more can you ask for? We, as Broncos fans, are lucky and spoiled. You need look no further than the Rockies to see that not all owners operate their organizations like Bowlen does.

We're damn lucky to have him.

What, exactly, relegates a fan to sheep status? Being satisfied with one playoff win in a decade?

In the dominant conference against one of the best franchises in NFL history, sure.

Meanwhile, all Mike did was set NFL records in yards, points, rushing everything, etc, with Griese, Plummer and a myriad of ****ty running backs.

Scape goat as you will.

Agree, about the in fighting. The only thing we can be sure of is that some things are going to change at Dove Valley and Invesco field (Mile High)

It may take 1-2-3 or more years, and maybe we don't get back to the Bowl for a long time. Or maybe we get there quickly.

My crystal ball is broken. So's everybody elses. Hindsight is the only thing that's 20-20. All the rest is conjecture and BS.

Any time travelers out there who KNOW what the right move is (was)?

We had a HOF coach who was fired because of the defense. If they hire McDaniels, thats one major hire that has done nothing to address the defense. WTF!!!

I loved Shanny, but when he said he was keeping slowik, and then said "we have to make alot of improvements on defense" I was confused, because I could not stomach another year of that man's defensive schemes. My wish wouldv'e been for Shanny to just fire Slowik and move on. I think Shanny forced Bowlen's hand.

i'm up for the challenge.

well the obvious point here. 1 playoff win since Elway retired. a complete lack of desire to try and fix the defense. arrogance with the RB situation and deciding he can find a late round gem instead of getting a top flight prospect. putting too much too soon on Cutler. at the beginning of this season he had played in 21 games, and Shanahan basically put the entire franchise this season on his arm. horrible decisions with player aquisitions, terrible drafting up until the past few years when the Goodman's were putting in their say on picks. sticking by a DC who this season put out one of the absolute worst defenses in league history. this was the year where firing a DC would have been a good move, but due to friendship he would not pull the trigger.

It was time to for a change. he isn't the 1st Super Bowl winning coach to get fired, and he won't be the last.

Shanahan himself said Slowik would be returning, that stupidity was enough to get his ass canned, regardless of what he accomplished a decade ago.

If Bowlen hires McDaniel, he's not better than Shanahan saying Slowik would be back.

I agree, that trading shanny for McDaniels doesn't make a lot of sense. But the point is that we don't know that is the case. IF they do that then you can scream murder...but it isn't true yet, so for now its all BS.

It's like saying we wouldvé won the bowl in 96 if not for the JAX game.

It didn't happen then, and NOTHING has happened yet.

Do you like Cutler?

When you minimize everything, and break things down to one moment... this was Mike Shanahan's post Elway defining factor. Without Jay, we could've draft one to two defensive studs potentially.

But we drafted Jay and began a rebuild

Pat didn't have the vision to see it through, but I admire the balls to do that on the cusp of a Superbowl.

If you don't fine. But if you support Cutler, you should be against the firing of Mike, imo.

Shanny did say we need to make many improvements on defense and that he was keeping Slowik. That statement is very confusing to me. Bowlen just got tired of the mediocrity. I didn't want Shanny fired, all I wanted was an aggressive attack defense, that's all I wanted.

I'm not sure that Cutler is the franchise QB we think yet. His tendency to force things is suspect. Of course with no run game and the defense we had he gets a pass for some of those games, but I'd like to see more progression from him as a leader and some better decision making, and I never want to see Mopey Jay out there.

Even with that he is a fine QB, but he needs to be better.

Anyway, in spite of all this ancilliary bull****, I believe what Mike Shanahn believes: we've got the best owner in professional sports. I consider Broncos fan quite fortunate to have him.

Well...you need to remember that it was Pat who originally said that Mike can coach here as long as he likes. For that, I have to knock him down a notch. Thank God he finally rectified his mistake and realized that employees need to be held accountable and not be given free passes.

I consider Jerry Buss, Arte Moreno & Pat Bowlen to be the best owners in pro sports & am damn glad to be a Laker, Angel & Bronco fan for 25 years and counting.

in what ****ing way did drafting Jay cost us 2 potential defensive studs? if i recall we were going to draft Maroney if we couldn't get Jay. so i need to hear how the picking of Jay cost us 2 defensive studs

you seem to break your argument down to we don't have a defense because we drafted Jay, so explain that.

on the cusp of a super bowl. we are talking about Shanahan, if our defense was in place and we needed to build an offense then you're right we would be on the cusp of a Super Bowl with him picking offensive players. Mike couldn't pick a good defensive player to save his life. with Mike still in Denver, allowing Slowik to get players he liked, overseeing all players we brought in via FA we would be in the same boat we are in now. a suck-ass defense and a new crop of overpaid no talent Defensive players Shanahan agreed to bring in to be playmakers and starters for us.

Also, is Mike the only coach in the league who can build up Cutler? get Jay a RB and some defensive help, and he breaks all of the passing records in Denver, wins a lot more games, and gets us back to the Super Bowl. firing Mike had absolutely no bearing on what Jay needs to get the job done.
