New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has withdrawn his name from consideration as commerce secretary for President-elect Barack Obama, citing an ongoing investigation about business dealings in his state. Richardson, 61, who competed unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination, was secretary of energy and U.N. ambassador during Bill Clinton's presidency, and also the first high-profile Latino named to Obama's Cabinet. But a grand jury in New Mexico is currently looking into charges of "pay-to-play" in the awarding of a state contract to a company that contributed to Richardson. The importance of the inquiry was apparently dismissed when Richardson was first nominated. But it may have taken on more weight in light of the "pay-to-play" allegations involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Wow this is big news. Richardson has no friends now in the Clinton camp. And no these entanglements are ruining his path into the federal govt with Obama. Talk about a politician who pretty much ruined his career. |

Too funny. This on the job training for Obama is gonna be the death of him. Hell, the reason he didn't know about Richardson's shady reputation for corrupt business dealings and preferential treatment for pay is because Obama comes from the 7th rung of pay to play Hell (Chicago) and assumes it's standard operating procedure.
They've come out and said Richardson was not forthcoming with them, but the onus is on them to vet the guy sufficiently, which they obviously did not do out of wishful thinking, party loyalty, or just plain laziness. Either way, score another one for a guy so inexperienced that he has crawfished on over half of is campaign promises, basically set up a 2nd Clinton admin, and seems to expect credibility for auditing himself. Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, Blagojevich, and now Richardson. All people in Obama's life that he just didn't seem to know all that well despite supporting each an every one until the bitter end....(the bitter end being when his political success took priority over these 'deep' friendships he supposedly had with them) Last edited by Smiling Assassin27; 01-05-2009 at 07:58 AM.. |

Its beginning to look as though Obama is an equal taker...it doesnt matter what your affiliations are, he'll take your money regardless.

This seems the normal operating procedures for most politicians. If not in corrupt business deals, are in ones that look shady at least.
