Default Terry Pierce sums up perfectly why Shanahan had to go.

"Bosz56" is former KSU and Denver Broncos linebacker, Terry Pierce.

Having played in Denver for Shanahan, what's your reaction to his firing today?

There is no denying that Shanahan brought to Denver what no other coach was able to bring in winning two super bowls. But to me, it is his arrogance that ruined his stay. Pat Bowlen (the owner) would have given Mike the keys to the damn city after those two super bowls. You could tell that Shanahan had waaaaaay too much power. He only kept the players around that he liked and it didn't matter whether or not they were performing.

I will say that as an offensive coach, the guy is as good as it gets. But as a GM/VP, his arrogance doesnt allow him to do the job. The defense that we had in 2003-2005 was really good(#3-#6 ranking in the NFL). He got rid of the entire defense. Deltha Oneal, Trevor Pryce, Mario Fatefehi, Al Wilson, Myself, Jashon Sykes, Sam Brandon, Kennoy kennedy, Darius Watts, George Foster (this includes several 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks) even Jason Elam wasn't paid minimally for all the success he brought to Denver on his leg.

When I got released, it was on the heels of an awesome training camp along with several others. That year he released 8 players that were in the two deep on defense ( something no team does). We were all high draft picks and it was very surprising that most if not all of us did not get picked up by other teams. This happens a when you leave Denver for some reason. Those are the players that continue in the system when your previous all-stars get old.

To put it bluntly, he ruined a lot of careers in Denver. And, he didn't care. It was ok until the outrageous things he was doing turned into losses.

He's got a point.

Terry Pierce This guy is really chiming in? What he should have said was, "all you need to know about how bad a GM Mike Shanahan was is that he drafted me..."

About a month and a half ago, I met Terry Pierce at an autograph signing before a Kansas State football game. I introduced myself as a Broncos fan and he told me then that he and Shanahan just didn't get along. This message board post from Terry doesn't surprise me in the least. We have to remember that Pierce was playing behind Al Wilson. That meant he had no chance to start, unless Al was hurt. Al DID eventually get hurt, but that was after Pierce was already out of Denver...

Ive summed up perfectly why Bob's ass needs to go yet, our fearless leader sticks with him.

I wish our fearless leader had as much balls as Bowlen did with Shanny and just banned Bob permanently.

Who would want Terry Pierce's autograph?

Piece was a good MLB in college. His problem was he was slow and not very football smart outside of the simplistic collegiate schemes. Slow is one thing but if you are an MLB in the NFL you have to be intelligent and highly instinctual. He was not.

K State fans. He was pretty good at K State. Led a good defense that upset OU and knocked them out of a title game in the Big 12 championship game (IIRC, Sproles was also in that game? Im pretty sure he was on that team).

I think you're right. Sproles was on the team during the Big XII title game. He finished 5th in Heisman voting that year (2003). An interesting tidbit of that autograph signing is that Kevin Lockett was also there. He briefly played WR for the Chorfs. He had the nerve to give me an autographed picture of him in a Chiefs uniform. I thought "Good. Now I have toilet paper"...

I can understand why Pierce would be pissed. We drafted him thinking that we would need to replace Al Wilson, but then Wilson ended up re-signing and we tried to plug Pierce in at SAM, which he was not suited to play.
