cited you guys yesterday. I wonder how often the mainstream media lurks in here and other sites?
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/new...coachs-ouster/ News first surfaced about the unexpected firing of Broncos coach Mike Shanahan a little before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. Within minutes, Broncos fans took to the Internet - the modern-day water cooler - to vent their opinions. Some were outraged by owner Pat Bowlen's decision to fire Shanahan, a two-time Super Bowl champion and the winningest coach in team history, after 14 years. Others agreed with the move, saying it was time for a change. And still others begged for the hiring of former Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher. The term "water-cooler news" is probably a thing of the past. These days, sports fans begin gathering, albeit virtually, almost instantly to publish their 2 cents' worth for all the world to see. * "You (Bowlen) are going to get exactly what you deserve for such a gutless move. When this team is floundering without an identity and our offensive core is bailing on us, remember this is what you wanted." - Taco John on Orangemane.com * "I'm saying it now: It won't take long for everyone to realize how good we had it with Shanahan. There is no coach out there who will make the Broncos a better team. Shanny detractors will be eating their words. Mark it down." - Chaz on Orange mane.com * "My wife would walk back and forth from the kitchen and ask me, 'How can you watch this mess? The owner should fire everybody tomorrow.' - and she knows nothing about football." - long beach bronco on Orangemane.com * "Rat Shanahan didn't do anything spectacular after Elway retired, and Elway didn't win a Super Bowl until he had Terrell Davis." - jhnmin30 on NFL.com * "Bill Cowher better be our next coach. Firing Mike is the wrong decision. This makes me sick. Besides Cowher, there is no better coach. This was pointless." - Murph2432 on Broncoscountry.com * "Bad decision! Fans be prepared for some bad seasons ahead. It all came down to bad defense! So find a good DC! Take some of Mike's power away . . . whatever, but not fire him without having a great replacement. Brace for shock because bad times are ahead." - nakajoe on Broncos country.com * "Finally . . . Didn't think he had the stones to do it. Shanahan is a GREAT coach, but there comes a time when the message doesn't get through and the team needs a new approach - just the way it is." - Woodrow on RockyMountainNews.com * "I've moved past denial . . . and past anger . . . now all I can do is laugh . . . I just don't know what else to do, I guess. But, honestly, if Al could get away with it, why not Pat? Sure, eventually he'd have to pay up but it would save us a lot of money RIGHT NOW." - TheChamp on Orangemane.com * "Stupid, but smart. He was a great coach and it is hard to let somebody go like Mike. But it's what we need. We haven't made the playoffs in three years. I think Broncos should go after Bill Cowher. Great for our defense!" - broncofan615 on NFL.com * "This one is going to haunt this team for a long time. The 2006 and 2008 drafts were the best we ever had; Shanahan was responsible. Mike Shanahan was the best thing that ever happened to the Broncos, this was a 4-5 win team in 2008 without him. Watch the rest of the AFC West rejoice." - colonelbeef on Orangemane.com * "GET COWHER!!!! GET COWHER!!!! GET COWHER!!!! GET COWHER!!!! GET COWHER!!!! GET COWHER!!!!" - mrtaco on RockyMountainNews.com |

Might want to rethink that. The newspaper will probably be closing its doors very soon. |
