Default Rooney Rule

Who do we interview to satisfy the Rooney Rule requirements? I vote Ted Cottrell for comedic value.

Possibly Raheem Morris, the new defensive coordinator (former defensive backs coach) of Tampa Bay.

Can we interview the coordinator in Indy? I believe he's already in line for the new coaching gig there, but I didn't know. Btw, whoever does come in, better not get rid of Bobby Turner. That's one coach that cannot go, but he'll likely go with shanny, which sucks

Pioli will be brought in, interview Bobby Turner and will turn right around and Hire Josh McDaniels.

McDaniels has a whole two years experience as a coordinator. I'm not sold on him, though I do like the fact he comes from New England.

Look what he did with Matt Cassel, a scrub QB who hasn't started a game since high school.

327/516, 3693 yard, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He was sacked 47 times (compared to Cutlers 11?)

Cutler will destroy any previous numbers he has seen with McDaniels in Denver. Our offense is so much more capable than New England had this season.

I know it's not a sure thing, but Pioli and McDaniels gives us hope.

My concern is that Cassel might be a product of a unique and highly effecient system in New England that is difficult to replicate elsewhere...kind of like when people are reluctant to credit our RB's as being any good because of our zone blocking expertise. Maybe McDaniel is great, maybe not...but one thing that concerns me is hiring a guy who has not faced the heat of being the head coach before. It's an entirely different thing leading a team vs. being a support guy. This is why I'm less worried about college HC's than most in here...I value leadership from the top and a documented history of success as being highly valuable. Coordinators might be good at calling plays or working with strategy...but until we see them gain the respect of others and lead people...we don't know what we're getting.

No, he's not, but he's also not going to get this job. The interview should be something of a reward for his services to the team. Something like that at least. Plus it gets his name out there.

As far as McDainels, I am just not sold at all. Two years as a coordinator. One of those years he got Tom Brady in his prime and a rejuvenated Randy Moss. I could've made that work. He's also in a situation where there is a dominant personality and voice in the organization in the form of Bellichek. In other words, he hasn't been anywhere close to "the guy." Now he gets the keys to the Ferrari? Bust factor is high with this one. If the main criticism of Shanahan the Coach is that he sometimes failed at getting his team focused and fired up, what makes us think Josh McDaniels is that guy? Where is he getting that fire, control and confidence from? It's certainly not on his resume. The assumption around here seems to be that he's worth the job because with him the offense stays where it is (a HUGE unknown, for starters) and that Pioli comes with him to make the decisions. But there is SO MUCH MORE to being a head coach than this simple numbers game, even if he was Shanahan's equal as a tactician.

Supposedly there is already a short list of candidates. To meet the Rooney rule they are rumored to be interviewing Ron Rivera, and 2 assistant coaches from 2 other teams. I will try to find the article as I was scanning the paper at home while feeding the baby and can't remember where I read it.

Found the article where the other names were mentioned:

Quote:
Some hot minority candidates around the NFL are Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Tampa Bay secondary coach Raheem Morris and San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.
