Default Would Shanahan have left if he thought he was leaving a superstar QB?

*ALERT* THIS THREAD IS BASED SOLELY ON THE PREMISE THAT SHANAHAN FORCED THIS MOVE BY NOT ACCEPTING SOME CHANGES PROPOSED BY BOWLEN SUCH AS BRINGING IN A GM AND FIRING THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR *****

Think about it, if Mike Shanahan TRULY believed that Cutler was the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, don't you think he would have accepted the changes proposed by Bowlen? You just don't walk away from "franchise" qbs. You don't walk away from Manning, Brady, Elway, or anyone of that caliber. As a coach, you get fired from those jobs with franchise QBs, you don't voluntarily leave them.

This is reminiscent of Holmgren walking away from Brett Favre. He knew Favre was more hype and headache than actually a Manning type of QB. He grew frustrated of Brett's "gunslinger" mentality and inablity to quit turning ove the ball. He felt that he could never truly win another Super Bowl with Brett and after he left, Brett did jack doodly as far as getting back to the big game without Holmgren. Sure, he played a long freaking time after Holmgren left, but he really never won anything meaningful.

What do you think?

It was always Mike's way or the highway.

Bowlen finally chose the highway.

Mike Holgrom won a superbowl with Brett Favre and HE traded for him

Your point on that is weak. He was offered the HC/GM hat in Seattle and more money which is why he left and that didnt work out for him and they took the GM title away

Listening to the Radio talking heads, it seems that Shanahan was told to fire Slowik and refused.
Shanahan didn't 'walk away' he was fired...there was no engineering a firing.... so your theory makes no sense.

the fact that he refused to fire slowik makes me wonder if maybe mike was getting in too deep with his control. there is none better then mike as far as coaching, but he should not have had control over the defensive side of the ball.

I honestly think that Shanahan was somewhat clueless about 'D' and Special teams....that would explain why the offense has been much more consistent.....he understood it.

exactly, so why wouldnt he just stay running the offense and leave someone to run the defense without his input? he could have been a HOF HC if he would have let someone help with the defense.

You are assuming that was an option.
