I think so. It's a young offense and continuity is important. Fire the whole D-staff since there was no continuity at all.

Hire a defensive coach, and leave bates and turner alone.

Maybe. New coach will come in and clean house. One or some coaches will be kept if they saw success this year because the new coach will need someone who knows the players, the organization. .

Leave the offensive staff in place and bring in a man who knows defense...Cowher would be good. This sucks though. Completely.

I like the idea of keeping Bates and Turner, but could care less about Dennison.

Why wouldn't Shanahan take his guys with him?

If Dennison and Turner go (I could care less about Bates aka Martz Jr), our offense will get set back.

The losses on the offensive staff/system, will hurt more than losing shanahan

Cause they're under contract. Bates just got an extension. Shanny would have to pay them more and provide the illusion of a promotion.
Also, Denver is a sweet gig. What's Mike gonna say? "Hey guys, want to live in Detroit with me and develop Dan Orvolsky?" |

If Shanahan does that, we're absolutely screwed. Bowlen is on the hook for his salary until he gets a new job. We can't even participate in the first round of coaching hires because of the money situation. This move will prove to be the unravelling of what we've just built. |

Bowlen's got deep pockets, I doubt he would have made this move unless he was confident he could lure in a top level candidate. Don't get me wrong, I think Shanny should have gotten another year like you did. But sometimes a fresh approach can help things. I am taking a wait and see approach. I think talk of a coach is putting the cart before the horse. The first target will be a GM. I will be happy if we bring in Pioli. |

All I know is our O doesnt need a major overhaul -- so hopefully we will get a D minded coach...

I said the same thing when I broke the news to a friend. Everybody is talking about the next coach - I'd get the top GM available, the best talent evaluator out there, and let the GM pick the coach. I'd go with an experienced talent evaluator GM/young coach combo instead of bringing in a retread old coach to handle both roles.
