With a draft this deep there is no reason we shouldn't find some serious talent at those picks.

Wait...I'm confused...NYJ, Chicago, TB, Dallas (pick given to DET), and NE are not playoff teams. So why are they in there with the rest of the playoff teams? Shouldn't picks 1-20 be set, with 21-32 (the playoff teams) variable?

Yep, I just looked, you're right.

Last year Buffalo was 7-9 too. Denver picked 12th in the 1st and and then 11th in the 2nd.

So 12th, 48th, and 79th if the Bolts lose somewhere short of the Super Bowl.

Taken from another site:

1) Superbowl winner is #32
2) Superbowl loser is #31
3) Group teams by record with the worst record going earliest

- first within group tiebreaker is how far the team advanced in the playoffs.
- second within group tiebreaker is opponents strength of schedule calculated on a percentage basis. Lesser competition leads to an earlier draft pick.
- third within group tiebreaker is any applicable divisional or wildcard tiebreaker. Applies to inter-conference opponents only. Finishing "behind" in the tiebreaker leads to an earlier draft pick.
- final tiebreaker is a coin flip.

In subsequent rounds each team rotates up one slot within group and the first team is bumped to the back of the bus.

Hmm...interesting. So the only playoff spots that really matter are the 2 SB teams? So say SD loses in the AFC Championship, they would still pick at #16 in the first round? That's kinda weird...playoff seeding doesn't go by overall record, it goes by whoever wins the divisions (because wild cards could have better records but still have lower seeds). But the draft ignores playoff seeds and playoff teams, and goes simply by overall regular season record (excluding the 2 SB teams).

Does anyone else find that weird? It seems to me that the playoff teams should all be ranked within #21-32 in draft order, and let every non-playoff team have #1-20. Why possibly give a team that makes it into the AFC Championship the #16 pick (as a hypothetical example from this year)?

+5th from Dallas for Holland, orignally reported as a '10 pick, but it was reported a couple weeks ago that it was this year

Shouldn't have to give up a pick for Robertson, but I'm sure we'll find out within the next week for sure.

This isn't the NBA or NHL, the 12 playoff teams are not set off in their own group.
