Steinfort's Sore spot was from 40-49 yards out.
In his career he was 19/42 from that distance. Prater is 5/13 from same distance in his shorter career, his nightmare spot as well. From 50+ Prater is 5/5 Steinfort was 5/11 From 30-39 yards out: Prater 7/8 and Steinfort 17/35 From 20-29 yards: Prater 8/6, Steinfort 20/24 From 1-19: Prater is 0/0 (100% Baby!) Steinfort 2/2 (also 100% b****!) Prater is 100% on PAT whereas Steinfort missed 7, SEVEN, in his 8 year career. Clearly Prater is better than Steinfort was, but if he doesn't develop over the offseason and not get better he may make a run at Steinfort's numbers. |

The sad (good?) part is he is not missing by much in most (all?) of those kicks. Hopefully some summer coaching and sports psych can ameliorate this problem. Otherwise he has been great at all other kicks.

I'd like to go back and see where the ball has been placed for his misses. I have a feeling that almost all of them are from the right hash, not the left hash or center. I believe this is due to his style of kicking, where there is no "hook" or "draw". His kicks almost always go very straight.

Jason Elam in 1993 was 4/10 from 40-49 yards (4/6 from 50+).
Maybe Prater is an Elam clone? |

I don't really understand the comparison you're trying to make here.
50+ yards Steinfort: 45% Prater: 100% 40-49 yards Steinfort: 45% Prater: 38% 30-39 yards Steinfort: 49% Prater: 89% 20-29 yards Steinfort: 83% Prater: 75% PAT Steinfort: Missed 7 in 8 years Prater: Perfect It also seems that Steinfort's sore spot was from 50+ with the same % as 40-49. And he had another sore spot from 30-39 with a % nearly as bad as the other two. In reality, it seems that Steinfort's "sore spot" was any field goal from 30+ yards. I have no idea who this guy is, but he basically seems like a horrible kicker, plain and simple. Quote:
You're comparing Prater to a guy with a lifetime 55% FG percentage, just because he's been bad from 40-49 (and solid under and over that). I think the comparison is completely unwarranted. ![]() |

I could have presented it better but there is a valid argument that he needs to make some adjustments this offseason or he will be out on the street quickly. |

Steinfort 1980 FG% = 76.5, Career % 55.3 Elam 1993 =74.3%, Career % 81.3 Prater 2008 = 73.3%, Career % 67.6 Rich Karlis 1983= 84.0%, Career % 72 (Bonus comparison) Only Elam got better after his 1st year, Jury still out on Prater. Prater could go either way and needs to make some adjustments this offseason or he will be looking for work in a year or so. I hope he puts in the work and becomes the next Elam, that remains to be seen. Last edited by broncosteven; 12-18-2008 at 08:03 PM.. Reason: Bonus #'s Karlis |
