The thing that stuck out to me after watching a few of those videos is the great job that the O line is doing. On most plays, when Cutler completes his 5 step drop back there aren't any defenders in his face. He quickly makes his read and gets rid of the ball before a defender is close to him. When a defender does get close he's good at sliding away from that defender. A combination of great protection and Cutler making quick reads is making the passing game really work.

I love me some Jay, but his win loss record is now even at 17-17. Champions definitely have to win more than they lose.

And, champions should be able to beat division rivals on the road. If we win 2 of the next three and can beat SD on the road, I will join the "champion" talk. Right now I will leave him as my second favorite QB to ever lead the Broncos.

Jay is exciting and Jay is awesome, Elway was a champion.

You just described what's made Peyton Manning so good...great protection and a set of receivers that get open quickly. The major difference is Jay is much more mobile and a threat to run. If we can find AND KEEP a running game, this offense will produce Colt-like numbers in the near future.

I understand what you’re saying but I disagree a little. Yes, right now Cutler is a .500 quarterback. But if Jay wasn’t on this team, do you think the Broncos would be anywhere close to .500 over that same span? I believe he makes the team better and has given the Broncos a chance to win games that they have no reason to win.

Don’t forget, it took Elway 14 years to win a championship. Just like I believed in Elway, I believe in Cutler that he has all the tools to win a championship (at some point in his career). And that is all the OP was saying.

What was Elways record after 2.5 years as the starter? Second, where did the poster say Cutler IS a champion? I for the life of me can't find it.

Not sure specifically what Elway's record was....but for the 1983, 1984, and 1985 seasons, the Broncos were 33-15.

I should know it but since I was a little kid when he started the stats aren't ingrained in my head. But I didn't think they were superb but I know they weren't bad. Which is what Jay is nearing towards the end of his 2nd full year.

C'mon now, we're not arguing. I have a Cutler jersey, a signed hat, and a space for his McFarlane figure in my custom built Broncos case.

I'm a huge fan, and I hope he dethrones Ming the Merciless and becomes the new Emperor of the solar system.

Hail to Jay-C, destroyer of worlds...

Nope I am way off and I should have known that, SO STUPID. If I am getting the right stats he was 33-11.

Nah I didn't mean it to be an attack. Just saying he didn't say he is a Champion.

Also I see your Elway point as I thought he had more losses his first year and second year. But I was mistaken. I knew he was above .500 but I was off on how much.

Like in that video where Jay avoids the safety , that is so Elway.

win loss record is not a good way to describe an individual player on a team. cutlers individual play has carried this team to an 8-5 record, i 100% believe that no other QB in the NFL could do that with this team. zero running game, several games without the entire passing attack. cutlers full skillset wins this team games they shouldnt be winning. win loss can make some players look good (trent dilfer super bowl anyone?) or really really good players look bad (tony gonzalez)

make actual comparisons about the player themselves, not the entire 22 guys that are on the field. and in that case, jay has every bit of chance to be as good and as successful like john, and similar to johns early years carry the team to playoff wins and SB's that they probably shouldnt be at. his win loss record is basically a moot point (though not totally, as a QB can make or break a game more then any player, and in jays case, he has made a LOT of games this year, while barely breaking any)

Stats are also hard to compare because it is not a relavant means of comparison. As the game has changed from 1985 to 2008 so must the means of comparison. The days of top tier QBS passing for 3500 yds 25TDS in the 80's are now replaced with 4000 yds and 30TDs for the top two tiers...

Premature thread, obviously... but Jay's got a chance for greatness. His problems are all his to work out. God gave him all the physical skills and on most Sundays, he knows exactly how to use them.

He's got to work on keeping his mechanics solid and maintaining composure when things start out rough. Leaders need to lead through adverse times.

I think a good example was this Sunday. He put the team in a bad position early, but then came back and had a phenomenal performance the rest of the day. He never looked mopey, etc. Hopefully that's a sign of continuing maturity.

compare what the player is doing for their team and its very, very similar. keeping their teams competitive when they probably shouldnt be. jay cutler means as much to this team now as john elway did in his first 3 super bowls.

These are the first 34 games started by Elway:

1983 4-6
1984 12-2
1985 7-3

after 34 games started Elway was 23-11.

who cares what his record was, that doesnt say anything as to how good the player is (or very little)

their defense was consistently holding teams to under 20 ppg too, but lets not talk about that, lets talk about ONLY the w-l record as that tells us what kind of player they are.
