nfl preseason power rankings - The Orange Mane

i motion to have ALL preseason power rankings banished. no person, no matter how educated, should even try to guess how the season pans out before a game is even played. its pathetic and i am curious if someone has EVER accurately picked the super bowl contenders. ESPN had the giants ranked 8th this year, even though they won the super bowl last year, and i have no clue where they had the titans. the chargers i believe they had as top 5, if not top 3, and multiple people picked them for the super bowl. stupid. anyone agree?

Yes, the pundits put too much stock in what teams did the previous year and how teams look on paper.

Since the NFL realigned in 2002, four of eight division winners on average don't win the division in the following season. And six of 12 playoff teams from the previous year on average don't make the postseason again.

I still don't get why people get so excited or upset if their team moves up or down in a power ranking. It means absolutley nothing and I don't pay attention to them.

If Denver if playing good and winning I could care less if they are ranked high or dead last.

Honestly that doesn't look any worse than any other random week during the season. All power rankings are junk anyway. And I feel the same way when they have the Broncos at the top of their lists.

Dr. Z picked the Broncos vs. the Giants before the 86 season began. (and the Broncos even missed the playoffs in 85)

Power rankings sell, that is why they do them, esp. in preseason. People are so anxious for the season to start, the gobble the schitt up.

power rankings are filler....something to add depth and discussion but not importance...
