The Match-up we've all been waiting for: Ohio State @ Michigan - The Orange Mane

The set-up is there, as #3 ranked OSU comes into Ann Arbor to face #8 Michigan. It's been a few years since both teams have been top 10 ranked and are that good, and this is the way rivalries are supposed to be.

Michigan still has some slim chances at going to the Sugar Bowl, but ruining OSU's chances will be just as grand to Michigan and their fans. OSU is looking to get back to the title game to defend their championship, but need to beat Michigan and have the BCS and other things fall into place to obtain that goal.

There is no bigger rivalry in football, and this year is going to be a great match-up between two evenly matched teams with a lot to play for.

fire away Mock, but it sounds to me like some frustration about Iowa rather than actually thinking that Michigan is going to drill OSU.

We have a thing called a defense, which might be the best in the country, if Michigan can somehow put up 38 points on us then my hat will go off to them....but it's not going to happen.

OSU 20 Michigan 16 is my prediction, as the Buckeyes find their way to the Sugar Bowl to face (gulp) Oklahoma.

I've been waiting all year for Ohio State to fall flat on their faces but some how they edge it out week after week. Ohio States season finally comes down to the big game at the big house. Honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. How awesome would it be for an Michigan fan to watch their boys end the Buck Eyes hopes of making it to the Sugar Bowl. It's not an -if- it's an when. Michigan has finally come into their own and Jamie "Elvis Grbac" Navarre has been doing very well after his Iowa meltdown.

Chris Perry has been a threat and they have possibly the best WR combo in the country. Even a defense like Ohio State will have a challenge shutting them down. Ohio States offense have been pretty quiet as of late and if Michigan can score 21 points that should be enough to win the game.

Early line is Michigan -6.5.

Iowa is +2 @ Wisconsin.

I never said Iowa was a threat, they are doing about as well as expected. A win Saturday makes it a pretty good season. They shouldn't of gotten blown out by MSU.

They did keep Arnold the Bronze Pig away from Minnesota last week.

Honestly, it's not a superlock at all. Ohio State has alot to play for in this game.

That's alot of points to give against OSU who always seem to be in tie games late.

No I live in Kansas City..... Although I have a lot of family in Michigan I wont be up there for the game. There isn't any other game I'd rather go to than Michigan/OSU in the Big House though.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- When Rob Sims was growing up in Ohio, he used to cry if his beloved Buckeyes lost to rival Michigan.

Now Sims is a 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive tackle for No. 4 Ohio State. And just as when he was small, he doesn't want to shed any tears after the Buckeyes play at No. 5 Michigan on Saturday.

``The Michigan-Ohio State game is like a ... holiday,'' Sims said Monday, carefully searching for just the right word to express his feelings. ``And for me to be a part of this holiday now makes me feel good, knowing that all of those people back home will be watching me doing my thing.''

From the big cities of Detroit and Cleveland to small towns, dairy farms and inner-city row houses, thousands of kids dream of one day playing in the rivalry referred to in these neighboring states simply as ``The Game.''

It grabs the attention of more than just sports fans each November.

Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk remembers his whole school in suburban Dayton choosing sides.

``We'd have a 'Beat Michigan' week at school and everybody would wear their Ohio State stuff for the whole week. Even the teachers would get excited,'' Hawk said. ``Everyone in Ohio is an Ohio State fan.''

Maybe not everyone.

After all, the Wolverines have 13 players from Ohio on their roster. And some of Michigan's most storied players -- including Heisman Trophy winners Charles Woodson and Desmond Howard -- grew up in Ohio.

Michigan has returned the favor. Buckeyes quarterback Craig Krenzel grew up in Sterling Heights, Mich. And it was Michigan's band that introduced Ohio State to ``Script Ohio,'' the blend of calligraphy and music now a staple of the Buckeyes' marching band.

Most households in the two states will watch the game on television, undoubtedly bringing many families together and causing friction in a few others.

``This is everything,'' Ohio State offensive lineman Mike Kudla said. ``Growing up as a little kid you watch these games on TV. I can remember my dad and my uncles all coming over to watch the big game.''

Kudla got a chance to play in his first Ohio State-Michigan game last year and speaks as if it were a religious experience.

``You never really, truly understand the feeling of how big this game is until you play in it. Last year was just unbelievable,'' he said. ``I couldn't even describe it.''

Krenzel is 2-0 against Michigan, which is particularly galling to Wolverines fans back home.

``Some of my friends from high school have somewhat converted to Ohio State fans while I'm here,'' Krenzel said with a wide grin. ``Some of them remain Michigan fans and would like to see me do well -- as long as we don't beat Michigan.''

This is the 100th meeting between the schools. Michigan holds a 56-37-6 lead in the series, voted the greatest rivalry of the 20th century in a fan poll conducted by ESPN.com.

``It's a great honor to play in any Ohio State-Michigan game,'' Krenzel said. ``To be considered good enough on your team to be able to participate in this game is a tremendous honor as well. Someday, to be able to sit back and talk to your kids and grandkids about playing in the 100th game, I'm sure it'll be a great thing.''

For now, the teams have a lot more to play for than just memories. The winner takes the Big Ten title, a BCS bowl bid and stays in contention for the national championship.

Even if the stakes weren't so high, however, ``The Game'' would remain a red-letter day in two states.

``Man, I just can't believe it,'' said Sims, who will play in his first Ohio State-Michigan game on Saturday. ``I've been thinking about the Michigan game, dreaming about it if I ever got a chance to play in it. I can't believe how long I've been thinking about this game. And now this is my chance.''

Sounds right on, there's nothing bigger around here than OSU-Michigan, and same goes for the state of Michigan.

OSU talked to the media today, basically blew off all talks and questions about them being #2 in the BCS this year, it was all about Michigan.

I seriously can't wait, it's been since the 1996 game I believe, where both teams have been this good and have so much riding on the game. A damn trip over his own feet by all-american shawn springs vaulted the Wolverines to a 13-9 victory, that day sucked.

Here's to better memories though, now that we are in the Tressel era now as Cooper is gone, time to go 3-0 under Tressel against that team up north.

Tressel is a great coach. My favorite coach. But don't forget that he won the national title with Coop's players. I would like to see cooper get back into the mix, maybe take over for Paterno.

Tressel is a great coach, and with Coopers players or not, we would've never won the NC with him still in Columbus. And after a 7-5 first year as OSU HC, Tressel posted the best or second best at the very least recruiting class in the country, that included RB Maurice Clarett(who is a cancer now, but a big reason why we won the Fiesta Bowl), next years starting QB Justin Zwick, future starting WR Roy Hall etc., this year our two big recruits were DB Donte Whitner and TE Louis Irizarry, so Tressel will keep this winning tradition alive here in Columbus.

Cooper is the best coach not coaching. If I were to start up a team he would be the one. The only reason he went was Michigan. Stop looking at the tarnish. See that record. He was Ohio State wasn't he?

That being said: I wouldn't trade Cooper for Tressel. But if Tressel starts a downward slide against Michigan too, you might start to understand.

If we get past Michigan though, We will smack Oklahomo with great authority, And Jim Tressel will be mentioned in the same sentence as Bear Bryant.

Man pleads guilty in order to watch game

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Columbus judge says he'll let an inmate stay in jail instead of moving him to prison right away so he can see the Ohio State-Michigan game on TV this Saturday.

Jeff Renne told Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Richard Sheward yesterday that he would plead guilty as long as he could stay in the county jail through the weekend. Inmates at the jail can watch TV, but it's off-limits at the Orient reception center, where they are held before they're moved to one of the state's prisons.

Renne was charged with forgery. He says if the Buckeyes win on Saturday, he'll still be "on cloud nine" despite being in prison.

Judge Sheward says he granted Renne's request because it's Michigan week and he thought he should do his part for the Buckeyes.

Irizarry was a Cane until his mother talked him out of it and now he is a third string TE. And actually Miami has a history at Ursuline HS in Ohio. To be fair he is still a true freshman so i wouldnt expect him to contribute right now. Whitner had us in his top 5 but i knew we wouldnt win that battle partly because he was the top CB in Ohio a place we usually dont go to for defense, and partly because he knew that he would start out behind Jennings, Marshall, Sharpe, Walden and Rolle on the depth chart. Actually OSU helped us out a few days ago. They stole one of the Gators key recruits, Jajuan Morgan who did well at the Nike Camp.
