Default Wow, just.....wow.

I don't know why this is such a big deal to me. Maybe we do need a backup Tackle with Pears done for the season, but why would we sign a guy on Monday and cut him on Saturday. Why even sign him? Is this an honest mistake, or is the FO just grasping at straws and losing composure?

The Broncos signed quarterback Darrell Hackney to their active roster from their practice squad Saturday, according to a news release from the team.

Also on Saturday, the Broncos waived tackle Matt Murphy, whom they signed Monday.

Hackney is a second-year player who spent the first eight weeks this season on Denver’s practice squad. He was on the Broncos’ active roster for their final eight games of the 2007 season after beginning it on their practice squad, and he has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.

In four games, one start, with the Broncos during the 2008 preseason, Hackney went 24-for-38 for 285 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

Hackney, a first-team All-Conference USA selection as a senior at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, began his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns as a free agent in 2006.

Yeah I mean seriously I heard he was pushing Clady for time on just 3 practices this week. Why on earth would they waive him.

Your answer was probably that he sucked ass and didn't warrant keeping.

Just a guess ... maybe they held off this long on waiving someone to see if Scheffler would be ready to go tomorrow ... and if he was, waive Mustard for Hackney, since he'd be the 4th TE.

So, maybe Scheffler is a no-go for this week, so they keep Mustard and let Murphy go ... then if Scheffler is good to go next week, they could bring back Murphy and let Mustard go.

I thought it was awfully strange they waited this long to sign Hackney of the PS.

Maybe I am, but it jest seems like the "management structure" is in disarray.

We had a bye week, we knew we didn't have a backup QB. Why doesn't Hackney instantly get the roster spot, no questions asked regardless of who else is healthy? I mean, you can't go into a game with just one QB unless your head is up your ass.

So why even sign another guy? Then, why cut him?

We could have just left the open roster spot, then rotated someone from our PS for the one game. It's just goofy.

We should be relaxed and focused coming off a bye, not scrambling.

Get used to scrambling, if Jay gets hurt that is all Hackney will be able to do. The dude is not a pro QB.

Maybe they were checking out other FA QB's or wanted to check out a player or 2 before they made the safe choice.

i'm assuming it has to do w/ practice squad elibility, if they are not on an active roster for 9 or more weeks they are still eligible to be on practice squad their first few years within the league, i bet he wants him to be eligible again for next year

It's simple, they didn't sign Hackney instantly because he was on the practice squad. Therefore, they didn't need to sign him to practice this week. The Broncos knew what they had in Hackney and simply wanted to get a look at another player for a week. It just so happens that the Broncos signed three players, probably told them "one of you is going to get cut this weekend in order for us to sign Hackney to the active roster." Consider it a short week try out and the two best players make it, the looser will be cut Saturday. Well, it appears Murphy lost out, no big deal. The Broncos got a week sneak peak at a player they can sign at a later date. You people just feel the need to panic over anything and everything. It's annoying as hell. Use some reasoning skills and common sense.

Well we know that Murphy and Shanny are just two MC's, he was probably just helping a brotha out with a drunken bet on making the roster.
