Default A new idea for the Orangemane.com

I am very happy with this website and am thankful for those who run it. You are doing a great job. Now, I am assuming one of the Mods is the website creator.

I think a "A Reply notification Tool" would be a cool idea. Just like this website notifies you about Private messages in the top right box. There could be one line added and it would say "Replies:". And Whenever someone either quotes or replies to a post you wrote, then it notifies you.

So, in the top right, it would look like this.

Welcome, Username.

Let the flaming begin.

An interesting idea. Not sure if such a mod currently exists in the library of mods, but it's likely we're going to be moving to vBulletin 5 in the offseason. We made the switch once before, but it turned out that the software wasn't ready for prime time back then. It's come a long ways since then. I'll examine to see if such a feature exists in the new package.

If you have someone on ignore they should be totally blocked and not seen in other people's quotes.

This feature has been out for vbulletin for ages.

Not only that - there are also "mentions" now too.

For example if I made a post that contained @Username - the member "Username" would have a section in his panel that would link him to the post...same concept as the "quoted" feature.

Anytime someone is quoted, there is a panel that links you to that specific post in which someone quoted you.

For example - I could make a post that says

We have dumbass fans.

@OABB @CHEF LUIGI

Then they would get notifications when they log onto the site.

Word. But I can't think of any message board where the "quoted" feature of an ignored user is also ignored. That's some ground-breaking **** you're asking for

Browsers are equipped with "scroll" buttons -- it's really not that difficult to scroll on past any content that one finds annoying. And sometimes one "accidentally" finds sublime entertainment that way. Or not. *shrug*

True enough.

But when entire pages are dedicated to ****ing bull**** -- the Chrissy era (error?) comes to mind -- you're scrolling past entire pages of ****ing bull****.

That would be awesome! I love knowing when someone's got a crush on me.

And I could say "hey, has anyone noticed @action disappeared when Brock was leading us to huge victories and is now coming back to take passive aggressive shots at the guy who punked him?"

You have to look at the content to know it's annoying. I'd rather just be able to block it out from the get go when you know there's a 90% chance you're gonna find the content annoying considering the poster

The scroll button is not really a real option for ignore.

More often than not you are ignoring someone because they spam the board meaning they post all the time and you really don't care what they have to say.

I'm sorry but the software should hide all quotes and posts from a user if you have them on ignore. Maybe this is part of a newer release but it really doesn't solve the ignore problem if a user wants to ignore that poster entirely.

in!

...on thread where members assume site admins can just click a button to implement new features without spending lots of time and money finding (or writing) appropriate vB mods, weaving them into their customized implementation, and having them work seamlessly.

It's not that rare. Sites with xenforo.com do it continually. This site is pretty antiquated tech wise, which is fine, but it's not that hard anymore.

I think it would be cool to remove Alec's abortion of a pick 'em contest from the main menu bar.

Just put everyone on ignore, then you only can see your own posts.

^ how everyone typically reads the 'mane anyways.

not really. you still have to weave those updates into an existing customized implementation. it's not as easy as pressing a button, unless you have a generic install with no mods.

i've run a vB site myself for more than 10 years now. TJ already has time and money invested in his vB license and configuration. to switch to new forum software will require buying a new license and then porting over the databases from this software and then customizing that new software the way TJ wants it so that most of what we're familiar with on the OM is retained. that means mods and or custom scripts. not to mention going through the various templates to customize the look and feel of the site. it's a lot of work.

myself, i got tired of that workload on every major vB update and just froze my site at a particularly robust version. i didn't implement any of the social networking stuff that started with vB 4.0+ (IIRC). since i don't generate ad revenue on my site, that was the point of diminishing returns.
