Tight end Shannon Sharpe, coach Dan Reeves and five other former members of the Denver Broncos are among 133 people nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2009 class. Other former Broncos on the list, released Tuesday, are safety Steve Atwater, running back Terrell Davis, linebacker Tom Jackson, linebacker Karl Mecklenburg and cornerback Louis Wright. This is Sharpe's first year of eligibility. The list of 133 nominees will be narrowed to 25 semifinalists next month, then to 15 finalists. Between four and seven inductees will be chosen in January from among those 15 and two senior nominees, Bob Hayes and Claude Humphrey. |

Well I think Sharpe is a first ballot so that is awesome. I think he can survive the Denver snub but not the others save for Reeves who was able to rid himself of what the media must think are Denver Germs.

![]() Gary Zimmerman just entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the Class of 2008. The class of 2009 has seven former Broncos among the 133 players, coaches and contributers who make up the preliminary list of nominees for election to the Hall of Fame’s newest class. Former Denver Broncos S Steve Atwater (1989-98), RB Terrell Davis (1995-2002), LB Tom Jackson (1973-86), LB Karl Mecklenburg (1983-94), Head Coach Dan Reeves (1981-92), TE Shannon Sharpe (1990-99, 2002-03) and CB Louis Wright (1975-86) are the Broncos who made the preliminary list of modern-era nominees. Sharpe is one of 11 first-year eligible nominees for election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, meaning this is the first year he met all of the requirements for induction — meaning he’s been retired at least five years. From this preliminary list of nominees, Hall of Fame selectors will choose 25 candidates who will advance as semifinalist nominees. The list of 25 semifinalists will be announced later next month. The semifinalists list will be reduced by a mail ballot to 15 finalists. The final list of nominees that will be considered for election will consist of the 15 modern-era finalists and the two previously announced senior nominees, Bob Hayes and Claude Humphrey. Hayes and Humphrey were selected this past August by the Hall of Fame’s Senior Selection Committee. The Class of 2009 will be selected from the list of 17 finalists (15 modern-era and two senior nominees). The actual voting will be conducted at the Hall of Fame Selection Committee’s annual meeting, which will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009, in Tampa, Florida the day before Super Bowl XLIII. The election results will be announced immediately after the meeting at a press conference in the media headquarters. While there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the ground rules provide that between four and seven new members will be selected. There are four players in the Hall of Fame who have played for the Broncos at one point in their careers. John Elway and Zimmerman are two. Tony Dorsett finished his career with the Broncos, and Willie Brown began his career in Denver, rounding out the four inductees. Stay tuned as the list is whittled down — and DenverBroncos.com will certainly keep you up to date. -Gray Caldwell, DenverBroncos.com |

Checked the Vegas line.... 100-1 no Bronco's make the hall this year. No Gradishar no support from me. The HOF can kiss my ass.

If there was any justice in the world, all 7 would be Broncos this year.

how many times in the past have more than 1 player from the same franchise been inducted the same year?
Sharpe is no doubt going to get in as a first ballot, and TD, Meck, Jackson and Wright are all deserving but probably won't get notice. |

If they wont take Gradishar Im out. I wonder how long Atwater will wait though his hits with the nightmare are things of legend.

I bet you Sharpe has to wait at least a season. The NFL and writers have long been known to put our players on the back burner. They could care less about his records and more importantly his multiple championship rings with two different franchises.
I imagine if Atwater/TD are to make it they will have to wait MANY years as well. Not as long as Sharpe but probably as much as Gradishar. As for Randy I imagine he'll make it in eventually. He should have been in already though. |

As far as I'm concerned, the Hall of Fame lost all credibility when Harry Carson got in, but Randy Gradishar didn't.
Good new about Torain making it, though. Hard to believe it took him half of his rookie season before being inducted into the HOF -- if he played in New York, he would have been inducted on draft day. |

I would not be surprised to see Sharpe make it this year.
He was always engaging and open with the media (and now he is part of the media) and that always helps. |

As much as this turns my stomach, Sharpe's induction is largely due to his time with the Ravens. It gave him a 3rd ring and more importantly familiarized him with the East Coast media. Had Shannon spent the 2000 and 2001 seasons here in Denver (and stil broken all the records he did), I doubt he'd be 1st ballot.

Right you are, sir. Carson was voted in after his constant whining and being in the New York market, but he didn't deserve to be in before a person who led one of the premiere defenses of the 1970s...

Floyd Little should be next. Heck, he should have been in before Elway. But he was snubbed again.
Shannon Sharpe will be a first ballot. He retired no. 1 all-time in receptions for TEs, plus he's got 3 rings. If Ozzie Newsome is in, if Dave Casper is in, Sharpe should be too. |

The 90's Broncos will have 3 at least when all is said and done. I do agree that Denver is underrepresented in the hall overall, but much of that is explainable. The 'East Coast bias' is nonsense. The cowboys get all the coverage, and Texas has nothing to do with New York City or Bristol, CT. |
