Joe Haden agrees to terms with Browns

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...s-with-browns/

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 31, 2010 2:18 PM ET

Joe Haden's "holdout" lasted half a day.

After missing Saturday morning's practice, the Browns cornerback agreed to terms on a five-year deal. The No. 7 overall pick will get a five year contract worth a maximum of $50 million, with $26 million guaranteed according to his agent. Both Jason La Canfora of NFL Network and May Cay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer have the same numbers.

Haden immediately becomes one of the highest paid cornerbacks in football despite legitimate questions about his speed and ability to translate into a true No. 1 cornerback. Eric Mangini downplayed concerns about Haden's quickness.

"A lot of rookies don't play as fast as they can at this point,'' said Mangini. "They're thinking.''

For now, Haden will probably work behind a solid duo in Eric Wright and Sheldon Brown.

Well i'm surprised I thought he would be very difficult to get signed

Jevan Snead doesn't make it to Bucs camp

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-to-bucs-camp/

Posted by Evan Silva on July 31, 2010 6:43 PM ET

Former Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead left college early to enter the NFL Draft after a junior season in which he completed just 54.4 percent of his passes and threw as many picks as touchdowns (20). In January's Cotton Bowl against an Oklahoma State defense that was without top cornerback Perrish Cox due to suspension, Snead completed 13-of-23 passes for just 168 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Really, it shouldn't have been a surprise that he went undrafted. And, unless you're ESPN's Todd McShay, Saturday's news about Snead shouldn't shock you, either.

The Bucs waived Snead to create space for No. 3 overall pick Gerald McCoy on their 80-man training camp roster.

Snead was essentially beat out for Bucs' No. 3 quarterback job by Rudy Carpenter during spring practices. With the help of a veteran NFL scout, Mike Florio perfectly detailed Snead's ill-advised decision in a March 31 post. The bottom line? Snead just isn't any good.

Wow....it was apparent to me at the start of the last college football season that my assessment of Jevan Snead was wrong....but I never figured it would be this wrong.

Derrick Morgan signs on with Titans

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...n-with-titans/

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 31, 2010 9:15 PM ET

The majority of first-round picks continue to sign on the dotted line with little drama.

No. 16 overall pick Derrick Morgan agreed to terms with the Titans on a five-year contract on Saturday evening, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Morgan's deal comes quickly on the heels of No. 15 pick Jason Pierre-Paul, also a defensive end, signing with the Giants.

Only ten first-round picks remain unsigned, and we wouldn't be surprised if that number gets reduced before the end of the night.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- On the eve of training camp, New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese signed his top two draft picks on Saturday, coming to terms with Jason Pierre-Paul and Linval Joseph.

Pierre-Paul, the 6-foot-5 defensive end out of South Florida, should be doing some of his signature backflips: His five-year deal is worth $20,050,000 with $11,629,807 guaranteed, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Pierre-Paul was the last of the Giants' draft picks to sign, allowing the team to open camp on Sunday with no holdouts.

Seahawks reach deal with Earl Thomas

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...h-earl-thomas/

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 1, 2010 2:04 AM ET

Proving once again that rookie signings can be finalized at any time, the Seahawks agreed to terms with safety Earl Thomas late Saturday night.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the contract includes $21.1 million over five seasons, with $12.32 million guaranteed. Thomas was taken fourteenth overall out of Texas for his instinctive centerfield skills at free safety. He should start right away and his deal allows Seattle to focus on signing No. 6 overall pick Russell Okung.

Thomas tweeted that he was eating at Olive Garden as he waited for the contract to finalized. Tomorrow night, he can totally afford Outback Steakhouse.

Ha ha, just read this on Schefter's tweet page.

Chargers get Ryan Mathews in the fold

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...s-in-the-fold/

Posted by Mike Florio on August 1, 2010 2:22 PM ET'

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier in the day that the Chargers likely would have running back Ryan Mathews under contract by the end of the day.

ESPN's John Clayton and Bill Williamson (who apparently independently got the news at the same time) report that the Chargers have struck a deal with the former Fresno State tailback.

The numbers for Mathews, the twelfth overall pick, will fall between the money paid to 49ers left tackle Anthony Davis at No. 11 and Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham at No. 13.

Either way, it'll be plenty more than the team has offered to receiver Vincent Jackson and left tackle Marcus McNeill.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen confirms that Ndamakong Suh is seeking a more lucrative contract than No. 1 pick Sam Bradford received.

Suh's agent, Eugene Parker, is reportedly pushing for $90 million over six years with a whopping $56 million guaranteed. Bradford got $78 million with $50 million guaranteed. It can be argued that Suh was the best player in the draft, but he doesn't get a QB premium and he wasn't the No. 1 pick. If Suh's representatives don't agree to slotting their client, we could be looking out a significant holdout. The Lions would be insane to give Suh more than Bradford.

Now that is a dick move. Suh should put an end to that request. 6 years, $72m with 45 guaranteed is more than any football player deserves.

You are not alone...

Then again - not sure you want to be in the same company as Pete Prisco...

Now here are the rest of the top players for next year's draft.

Alualu deal is finally done

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-finally-done/

Posted by Mike Florio on August 2, 2010 12:16 PM ET

Last night, a strange situation developed. The Jaguars insisted that defensive tackle Tyson Alualu, the 10th overall pick in the draft, had agreed to terms. Alualu's agent, Kenny Zuckerman, insisted that no agreement had been reached.

Though Zuckerman provided no on-the-record update in the wake of Alualu's desire to sleep on the Jags' latest offer, Jags owner Wayne Weaver chimed in on Monday, claiming that Alualu has indeed agreed to terms and that he'll be flying from Hawaii to Jacksonville, arriving in town on Tuesday.

FOX's Jay Glazer now reports via Twitter that Alualu has indeed accepted the offer after discussing the situation with his family and sleeping on it.

We've confirmed that, indeed, the deal is done. (That said, we nearly risked being choked out by Glazer; a source with knowledge of the negotiations was insisting that Glazer's report was wrong, before getting the updated information that the deal was finished "a few minutes ago.")
