Nolan saw that as a corner, champ could just be avoided, but as a safety he could dictate his own matchups and defend the deep field and have a greater impact on the overall defense than just following a decoy to the bathroom because no QB was going to throw in his diorection. NOLAN saw champ as a super ED REED, great instincts, savvy and ball skills as well as text-book tackling.

What's hilarious is Nolan just did the EXACT same thing he's done basically every year as a DC or HC and people keep rewarding him for it.

His defense starts of year strong
Teams get film on him and then his defenses promptly suck in November and December
He signs a big extension or leaves and signs with some other dumb team

(Atlanta had yet another top 10 D early on the season and ended the season ranked 27th.)

There is a big difference between a reporter asking a hypothetical question "Are you moving to safety?" and a coach telling a player "You are moving to safety." It's the difference between your buddy asking if you are working late on Friday and your boss telling you to. Telling your friend that you aren't working overtime is not the same thing as refusing your boss' order. See what I mean?

Edit:Am I using boss' correctly? Should it be "bosses"?

McCown will probably stay on as the backup. He said he might retire so I would assume he just stays or retires.

that's my guess too. I did see that his deal with Chicago is kind of daft in that had they just offered him literally $1 more dollar over the minimum they'd have more ability to keep him or at least sign his extension sooner than March.

He's a good backup for anyone and certainly one of the cheaper ones. I think it's also interesting according to the article that he's built a good relationship with Cutler so Chicago should endeavor to keep him.

The only person I have heard say that Champ didn't want to play Safety is you. your quote from Champ never supported that statement. Without facts, this is a spin.
