Default Broncos have to wait until monday to make moves.

The Broncos have an agreement in principle to sign receiver Chad Jackson. He should sign on Monday.

The Broncos also officially placed outside linebacker Boss Bailey (right knee) and backup quarterback Patrick Ramsey (elbow) on injured reserve, ending their season. Bailey will microfracture surgery next week. The Broncos also placed backup offensive tackle Erik Pears on the reserve non-football injury list.

As for replacing star cornerback Champ Bailey, who is out at least four weeks with a strained groin, the Broncos are giving the first chance to veteran Karl Paymah with rookie Jack Williams staying as the nickelback.

Darrell Hackney will become the No. 2 quarterback to Jay Cutler, although he won't be formally promoted from the practice squad until Monday.

"I was just told I'm going to have a bigger role, to No. 2 quarterback," Hackney said.

Jackson was a star receiver at the University of Florida whose draft stock soared during the 2006 NFL Combine with a 4.2-second time in the 40. But after he was drafted in the second round by the New England Patriots, Jackson's career stalled.

He had just 13 catches, although three were for touchdowns, in his two seasons with New England. He was among the final cuts in training camp and has since been on the NFL tryout circuit, including a stop in Denver.

"Nothing's official," said Jackson's agent, Ian Greengross.

No clue. I'd be just assuming it has to do with the bye week and no official player moves ca be done on a bye week?

I'd guess Chad has a playbook in his hands and is learning what he can.

i am not uderstanding why we can't get our new guys on the roster up to speed on a bye week. isn't that what a bye week is used for, resting and healing up, but also changing a few things on the roster

I remember people predicting Denver would take Chad Jackson, who came with all the physical measurables you could ask for. What happened to this guy is pretty much a complete mystery unless he's just either dumber than a bag of hammers or lazy. Either way...nobody but us seems to want him.

Why is that?

Is it possible that the bye could count as a gameday check for the new guys (and the newly promoted) so they are waiting to sign them in the week after?

I'm guessing one of these two explains it.

Why do we need a WR anyway? Is Stokley worse off than we know?

Any word on that safety Miami released? Is he any good? Couldn't be any worse than what we have, right?!?

Jackson was the long ball guy at UF. Let him do the same here by filling the role that should be manned by Lelie.
