Default Broncos magic playoff number: 6

In case you missed it yesterday, the Broncos won their fourth game yesterday and are first in the division with a 4-1 record. I think it is safe to say that very few would have predicted that we would be where we are at for the season thus far. Obviously, these could lead us all to have delusions of Lombardis which, as we saw last week, can be crunched by a bad game.

Therefore, I have chosen to set my sights for the team around what we expected and hoped for at the beginning of the year. Realistically I am looking for the Broncos to win 10 games and make the playoffs. This will be my barometer of success for the season.

Ten wins is a solid goal since very few teams have missed the playoffs with a 10-6 record. This appears to be especially true since many teams seem to be muddled in mediocrity that were suppose to be osme of this years elite. The Ravens, Colts, Jaguars, and Jets all have 2 wins despite some pre-season predictions that these were the favorites to make the playoffs. Each of these teams also dealing with major issues that they will have to correct soon in order to make a playoff push.

Besides, isn't there something magical about starting the magic number count at 6 anyways?

Understand that I am not trying to sell the team short by any means. We could win the remainder of the games this season and I would be very happy about that. Instead, I have found a focal point for what will be a rollarcoaster season.

More importantly, we have a 2-game lead in our division. We don't have to depend on any AFC West foe losing (unless we are playing them) to win the division.

I still think it is too early in the season to be saying that we dont need to worry about other teams. We all know the Chuggers are in a bit of a slump right now and know they will finish strong. That 2 game lead could go quickly if the team doesnt keep their head on straight and know that they need to finish games out.

Agreed.

I never believed in the 1/2 of the way through the season analysis. A lot of things could change in the next few weeks. Any of those bubble teams could get hot and make a run. Indy could get their offensive mojo back, the Jags could get hot, The Pats could Castle-proof their team, or the Jets could gel as a team and make a run.

So their magic number is greater than the number of games they've played? Why is there a thread about that?

To lure you out of hiding.

Really, I thought it would be a good way to bring balance to the up and down of the season (OMG, fire everyone!...Cutler will be SB MVP...our defense sucks...Marshall really does eat babies!).

Besides, making threads and discussing things is kind of what we do here. Just have some fun with it.

Us oldtimers remember missing the playoffs with a 10-6 record when we lost the tiebreaker to the Chargers.

You guys are retarded with this 2 1/2 stuff. All San Diego has to do is win one more game then Denver before the last game of the year and then beat Denver. That's all. 2 1/2 Please. It's this kind of thinking is why they laid an egg in KC.

Jacksonville will come in hungry for a win! They lost yesterday and it was a national loss!

We have to be hungrier for that win on Sunday.

Any given Sunday lost us that awful win just a little over a week ago. I think we should just stick with one game at a time.

Not trying to burst any bubbles, I just like to take it one week at a time, that's all!

It has happened before, but not very often. Statsiticaly, if you win 10 you make the playoffs.

yea cause math had alot to do with KC ... Oh please ... and like anyone thinking anything on a message board made them have a crap game ...
and it is called a "technical" 2 1/2 game lead in their division on every nfl show by every broadcaster . period ... moving on ....

O and own and run a camp for handicapped kids so F you , and judging by your opinions and weak grasp of math you might be the retarded one ....

I think we were the only team ever to do that as well.

The magic number isn't really 6.

I think we can safely forget about the Chiefs and the Raiders. So we should only look at the Chargers. As we know a magic number is any combination of wins by the Broncos and losses by the Chargers. Therefore the number should be 10. With hopefully 6 or more Denver wins involved.

It is the magic number for the playoffs, not the division. Like I said, 10 wins should and does historically get you in the playoffs.

We didn't have 4 wins until week 10 last year.
