Default California! Prop8?

I know we have some folks her from Cali, are you voting for or against prop 8 and why? I've found that I'm having some fights internally with this and I'm still on the fence. I'm looking for some good pro and con arguments here. I've always been an advocate of letting the gays do what they want and live their own lives, but I find it troubling for some reason calling what they have as the "same" as what i have with my wife and child. Some one convince me one way or another.

I don't think it is the same but maybe it doesn't matter. I think I will go ahead and vote for gays to be able to marry. Life is hard enough to be happy without govt telling you who you can marry.

...and that's what my gut said at first. In fact i was a little outraged at first to hear that this was being voted on, but then some other points came to light. First, I don't like the idea that people of the next generation will grow up thinking this is as good a situation as any other American family. In other words, i see the effect of single parent families every day, but now it seems like one more roadblock in the attempt to reconstruct the "family" wich is already almost extinct. My daughter is a perfect mix, physically and emotionally of myself and my wife. She's learning how to be a young woman from my wife, and how to be a confident woman from me. All kids need both parents, weather they have them or not.

Do I think homosexual couples can raise a child, well sure, why not, if single parents can, then why not. Do I think its something my vote should condone? I'm not sure. I'm all confused.

The other thing that bothers me is, we voted on this already, and we are voting on it again, when does it end?

Well, the state of California already protects the rights of same sex couples akin to married couples, the only difference is a piece of paper, the marriage license. Married couples in California already enjoy all the legal rights of marriage, this is just a battle over semantics really.

Do you have a piece of paper for your marriage? If so then why shouldn't they have one for theirs? Did you marry your wife because you loved her and wanted to spend the rest of your life with her? They do it for the same reason. I don't know what California's laws are but if they love each other enough to get married they should enjoy the same legal rights as a heterosexual married couple.

They are the same as other families. They are normal and dysfunctional. My cousin and his partner have 3 adopted kids and they are more normal than most families. It's all about love....and legal rights.
