Default The Orang Crush Defense is back!!

O.K.... just kiddin'.

But, I love this kind of game. D flying around, cracking people in the mouth... knocking QBs out of the game and playing some real football.

The D deserves props today, for all the bashing we've done. Still major problems, but maybe this is something to build on. Clearly... there's no dominant team in the AFC. It's wide open.

The gameplan was good today. Maybe I was a little quick to judge Slowik.

I think it is safe to say the key seems to be attacking. Today the defense played downhill, and it showed.

They are still very soft in the middle (damn safetys). Garcia was better at taking advantage even with good pressure. I'm not sure how much better they'll be able to mask that weakness

I was going to come in here and spank who ever titled this thread. Nice snap back from the crap in Narrowhead. Playing Thomas in and out was an interesting twist. LBs played much better. So did the line. Two sacks. Much improved.

Still holes, but great to see DL making some plays for a change and the defense being aggressive for a change as well.

I didn't get to watch, what did they do differently that resulted in, you know, not embarrassing themselves?

The only thing the defense did differently today was tackle better.

Apart from a couple of Graham runs the defenders, especially the LBers flowed to the ball and didn't miss tackles. Robertson did a very solid job of not allowing the OL guys to block out the LBers.

Bly still gave up his usual quota of 5/6 completions. I'm beginning to dislike the guy.

But the biggest difference? Our safeties didn't have to do crap because both QBs had peewee arms so they weren't tested apart from that sure TD Griese botched to Stephens where the safety sh*t his pants.

Seem like the D was motivated to play lights out today and they did. I hope they build on this and turn this defense around for good. Great victory ! 4-1

I don't think that the Tampa O-line is among the best in the league, but they were still a 3-1 team playing at home.

Thing is, the way people were talking about the defense you wouldn't think they could stop anybody. Today we saw the truth: these guys can play, they just aren't the best defense in the league.

With one of the best offenses in the league, I'll take that for now. Thing is, I'm still optimistic about the prospects for this defense to improve over the course fo the season. We have some difference-makers out there: Champ, Elvis, DJ. All we need is for the rest of the guys to know their assignments, play hard and tackle well and the defense could be truly solid.

True, they didn't have to worry about the deep ball as much this week, but the Chiefs aren't much of a deep threat either.

For the most part we made them earn their points.

I want to see this defense do this on a consistent basis before I get optimistic, but this is something to build off of

I still am not a fan of the 3 man rushes. We were doing a pretty good job with 4 men rushing.

Not just blitzes, but some real variance in the kinds of packages they threw at them. Even if they all didn't work, you love to see this kind of aggression.

Champ's little brother did well, today. DJ was just outstanding. We showed some heart and ATTITUDE I haven't seen since last year. BTW, the shot of Coyer flummoxed on the sidelines as the game was coming to a close was PRICELESS...

The difference was the defense didn't over pursue or miss too many of their assignments and they actually tackled, i was surprised and amazed, feels like its been a 1,000 years since somebody besides champ could tackle.

Who knew they could play D?

They were aggressive on most plays, attacked the line and Dumervil seems to be recovered from his broken finger.

I loved seeing Ekuban in there a lot, he is a lot more versatile than Engelberger and Dumervil.

Did anybody notice DJ? on almost EVERY big play we got on D, he was involved. he batted pass that would have converted a 3rd down, got a sack, made tackles at the line. He is head and shoulders above our other LBs.

Our safeties still suck, they just stand by and look at the players they are supposed to tackle.

The D just might have found it's leader hes not flashy but he has lead by example.

That was a huge injury. People laughed when some of us said it would really slow him down, but he said it himself. Dumervil is all about his hands, and maybe it's healing.

I also noticed Ekuban in there more often, which is a move that should have been obvious to the staff earlier.

You're correct about our safeties, though.... man are they horrible, and I mean horrible. Manuel is a disaster and McCree finally made one play, and hurt himself doing it. They are two of the least physical, instinctive S's we've had in a long time. At least Kennoy Kennedy hit people, as dumb as he may have been.

But, again... the unit deserves big praise today.

Williams continues to improve. He's finally gotten himself to a level where he might start getting some Pro Bowl looks.

3 sacks iirc. DJ pushed Greise OB for a -1.
