On another thread, someone said he doesnt have any experience coaching defense though. If Rex Ryan were to go...

read it more carefully and you meant 3-4 Defense coaches. my bad. dont really know. doesnt really matter considering we dont have a NT to run a 3-4 effectively. |

Rex Ryan ain't gonna get fired so the only hope would eb a truck load of cash and a Assistant head coach title. But would he even help?

I wish we got Shaun Rogers instead of Robertson! I think Robertson has played NT in the 3-4 before though.
If we trade Champ we could get that guy though, and maybe a quality safety as well! |

Anything would be an upgrade over what we have right now. Heck, I could do a better job then Slowik! What is the worst that can happen? We will have the worst D in the league?

Actually, as he has demonstrated since leaving NE, Crennel absolutely sucks if he doesn't have the best DLinemen in the league. Any coach would look great with the guys he had in NE.

Richard Seymour would suck in Denver. And besides him, who did the pats have? A bunch of over achievers! That is what we need, and thinnk we have them, just non are in the starting line up.

I have been saying we need to poach Mike Singletary from SF throw him the top spot on D and give him the assistant HC title as well.

And who else did he have in NE? Ty Warren, who is better than any DE currently on the Broncos BY FAR. Jarvis Green, a backup for NE, yet he is averaging 7 sacks a season. Instantly would be the Broncos best DE. The Broncos do not have a single DLineman on their roster who would excel in a 3-4 defense. The Pats have 4 who have proven that they can do it, and have done it now for years. |

Mark my words--if that is the direction that the Broncos choose to go, and I am for it...WADE PHILLIPS will be let go when Dallas does not win the SB. Jason Garrett will be running that show in 2009.....

Who is to say we have the lineman to run a 4-3 effectively? Our defense is 30th --pursuing the 3-4 IS a viable option for the Broncos --when you are almost starting from scratch, nothing is off of the table............ |

Part of that 30th ranking you mention is the fact that the safeties and CBs outside of Bailey and Bly suck major ass. That isn't going to change in a 3-4. Those same guys will be out on the field. |

Even if we had a good 3-4 coach, we don't have 3-4 personnel.

Well to be honest
We don't have the S's or the DL to play the 3/4. I think moss could translate to OLB, and DJ would be fine. So really the only thing missing for the 3/4 is the same things we are missing for the 4-3 lol |

Crowder would be a servicable DE in the 3-4...Robertson can play NT, but ultimately we need a better one. Engleburger or Ekuban would play the other DE. And then Doom and Moss could rotate as the blitzing OLB. DJ is solid. Webster is ok at best and I do think Boss could also make a good blitzing OLB. Our Safeties are still a huge problem. I would think that there are some old vets who could give us some good years like Lynch did though, or Harrison has done for the Pats. We dont need to be young at every position.
I think our personel would fit a 3-4 better than a 4-3...with good coaching. We suck now, why not give it a try :-) |

The bottom line here people is there is not enough talent on the defense period. If you have a hole here or there you can sorta make adjustments to cover those areas. But when you have alot holes, there is no hiding it. We have a few decent DL but nobody great. We have a damn good LB in Williams and Boss can play well but he is hot and cold. The other guys might not start for anybody else in the league. Champ is great, Bly is above average and the rest of the secondary blows.
That is a crap load of holes - no new coach is gonna fix that. Basically, we're idiots if we don't use every pick next year on the defense. I would even package some of the lower picks with our first round to move up and snag a big time prospect. We need at least one of those. We can't just draft a bunch of lower round DL and expect them to be anything more then a Engleberger. Last edited by ZONA; 09-30-2008 at 12:35 PM.. |
