I think what's got both sides freaking out is the messages they are getting from the American people. It's a lynch mob. The pols want to make sure it's not them up on the scaffold. It will be entertaining to see these guys running scared all day. Did you see the sweat on Dodd's lip yesterday? He looked worse than Nixon during the Kennedy debate.

What were you just saying the other day about the French government fearing its citizens rather than vice-versa?

We may be off to a good start here.

The treasury could make 2 trillion on thuis...or let JP morgan in the alternative plan`which isnt close to sufficient. It's NOT A BAILOUT, there are asset, hard assets, at least as I understand it.

We are very close to a meltdown come monday.

About time. I figure if the American people don't want them to bail out Wall Street, they shouldn't do it. That should shake the market back down to some realistic valuations pretty quick. I'd rather the American economy was based on something a little more concrete than a bunch of credit statements anyway.

I watched the proceedings and news for about 3 hours yesterday and did not see one politician that was not atleast 50 pounds over weight. These fools are swimming in poison and are full of shiit literally is it any wonder they can't come to a useful and informed plan?

Remember these mortgages are based on values at the top of the housing bubble it will be a long long time before they are worth what they were at the time of the loan, if ever. This will be much like the S&S bail out with the properties being sold for pennies on the dollar of the original value. Don't kid yourself Mock

Dude, do your homework. Who ***ed this up? Well, let's see. Right now, Pelosi has enough votes to get the bill passed in the Senate. Why isn't she putting it to a vote? She could lose all Democrat support and STILL get it passed, so why doesn't she? Because she's a conniving political wonk, not a legitimate leader with the good of America on her mind.

The whining you see from Barney 'Fannie and Freddie are just fine, thank you' Frank and Pelosi are a sham that any child could see through. Pelosi just doesn't want to hitch herself to Bush when her party is pushing the 'McSame' crap across the country. Yet these two want John McCain to pull Boehner and the other (correctly, mind you) dissenting Republicans into this plan so they don't lose face by siding with Bush. They don't want any potential failure (which this bill most certainly will do, when implemented) to fall back on them--true cowards. Reid, Frank, and Pelosi are playing games right now, pandering for political cover rather than dealing with the crisis in a systematic, decisive, and economically feasible manner. The days of politicians standing up for what they believe is right has gone the way of the dodo.

Believe me, McCain would be an idiot for supporting this bill. Let Obama (who's doing his John Lennon impression--silent for the time being), Reid, Pelosi, and Bush go hand in hand into failure. They want to pass a bill simply for the sake of passing a bill.

I blame this all on Sarah Palin's inexperience...

You don't think the Repugs are not pulling the same conniving, cover-your-own-ass-first as the Dems? I got a bridge for sale for ya. It's called the Bridge to Nowhere. I'll sell it to ya for pennies on the dollar. Let me tell you the game being played in Washington right now. In the Army we called it "CYA."

How quickly, in your desperation to deflect the blame, you lose sight of the fact that it was your ideology and your party's incompetence, recklessness, and criminality that got us into this mess to begin with.

Pathetic!

Judging by the comments I've been reading and the reports of what the politicians are getting, what the American people want is not a bail out. They want to see somebody go to jail. And I'm right there with 'em.

While I completely disagree with your usual attempt to push all the blame to the other party I do find comedy and a bit of expected sickness in this response.

I just have this vision of you babysitting a kid and after telling him not to climb on the house and jump off he still does it. As the kid is laying there with broken bones and bleeding, you are standing over them saying "it is your incompetence, recklessness and criminality that got you into this mess so just lay there and deal with it..."

Not that it is any surprise to anyone on this board that you harbor that kind of bitterness and anger.

Your analogy couldn't be more idiotic and inappropriate insofar as we're not talking about kids here - we're talking about adults who were entrusted with the stewardship of our economy.

If you're not angry about this turn of events, then you are so out of touch with mainstream America you are probably living on another planet (which would be no surprise to anyone on this board, I'm sure.)

Psychological Warfare, Friday Edition

When John McCain abruptly paused his campaign and flew to Washington, he also put the presidential debate scheduled for tonight on hold. Barack Obama has called his bluff and said he will be at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS tonight and looks forward to debating McCain there. McCain, in turn, has said he won't go to Mississippi until the economic crisis is solved.

To a large extent, McCain has taken a riverboat gamble because (1) he is not even on the Senate banking committee and Dodd won't give him the time of day, let alone a real role in shaping the bill, (2) the ranking member of the banking committee (Shelby) opposes the bill, and (3) the House Republicans are in open revolt against the President.

If McCain tucks his tail between his legs and flies to Mississippi to debate Obama at Ole Miss, he will hardly look like a man of action who flew to Washington, banged heads together, and got a bill. On the other hand, if he stays in Washington to work on the bill (meaning fighting Dodd, Shelby, and the House Republicans) Obama will ask the moderator, Jim Lehrer, to moderate a town hall meeting with questions from the audience.

That would be an unmitigated disaster for McCain. Obama would get at least an hour of free TV time and look like a President at a press conference fielding questions in a mature way and McCain would look like just another squabbling congressman.

Of course, McCain knows this very well so he will try really, really hard to get a bill today so he can fly off to Mississippi in triumph. Dodd, of course, knows all this, too, and will try to extract huge concessions from McCain (which he knows Boehner will never swallow) in return for a bill today. It's all high-stakes poker with Paulson, Bush, Dodd, Boehner, McCain and Obama all having different interests. Anything is possible at this point.

I suppose that might be to you as I'm guessing you differentiate your levels of hate towards people based on age, race, gender and other factors. If you could spend some time with a good head doctor maybe you could get past your anger and hate and it wouldn't matter if we are talking about kids, adults, whites, blacks, poor, wealthy or whatever as you wouldn't harbor ill will towards any of them.

Good question. Do they even play football anyone? Last I checked they didn't. In all seriousness I haven't watched them play a game this season. I watched about 5 minutes of the Atlanta game. I threw in the towel completely on that franchise when they traded a pick for Herm Edwards and retained Carl Peterson. I hope they go 0-16.

I think this year is as bad as it will be. The fans wont put up with King Carl or Herm after this debacle.
