Default So Let Me Get This Right

Around 1:00 pm today, after 6 days of talks, an agreement in principal is made to what used to be Paulson's plan with serious re-writing by Dodd and Frank.

Between 3:00 and 4:00 pm today, McCain makes the rounds of Congress and a bi-partisan meeting is held with Bush requested by McCain.

Around the same timeframe, GOP critics come out against the bill and saying the deal has now not been reached.

Around 5:00 pm McCain leaves downtown D.C. for the day to do media (where'd he get that time?). On the media apperances McCain says he's leading Congress to a resolution and putting Country first, Politics last (although he killed/delayed the plan, and still running a full campaign).

McCain states he may not be able to make a 9:00 pm debate (4 hrs after he left D.C. today) tomorrow to try and get through a bill that he killed (for now)(although it has all of what he broadly -- belatedly -- called for).

All of this 7 days after he called the fundamentals of our economy strong.

Seriously, this is borderline treason. Playing a game of chicken with the potential of an economic collapse for purely selfish gain. **** McCain, and **** anyone who supports this stunt.

From the American Conservative ... seriously ... even they see it ... f.ck McCain ...

Quote:
The GOP loyalist response to McCain’s stunt has been predictable (right down to Gingrich’s Romneyesque call for a “workout, not a bailout”), and it says a great deal about what these people think constitutes leadership: opportunism, trying to hog the credit for other people’s work and, above all, a mindless dedication to taking action. No doubt, if these were what made for great leaders McCain would be the new Augustus.

Laughably, Gingrich likens this to Eisenhower’s “I will go to Korea,” but unlike Eisenhower and the Korean war McCain has no credibility concerning the crisis he is supposedly addressing. In the end, knowing when you can contribute something and knowing when to avoid complicating an already difficult situation by intruding on ongoing negotiations is what separates grandstanding from leadership. It is what separates the simple egomaniacs from the ambitious pols who nonetheless have some idea what public service is. McCain’s belief that he is indispensable in a time of crisis is the surest sign that he is unfit for any office in republican government, much less the chief magistracy of the Republic.

John McCain: The American Quixote.

Just point him in a direction and off he charges. Then, turn him around and off he charges again. Hiyo!

Well this had better blow up in McCheese's face or America will show it has lost all sense of purpose and prove we are a whimsical nation of fools who will follow any nice sounding sound bite.

This whole thing is pure Rove; Seize the media spotlight and hold on to it. Dictate the media dialogue. Continuously put your opponent into the position of reacting to your actions, good or bad.

I don't think I can vote for McCain with a clear conscience.

What an embarrassment.

I have a feeling this debate is going to be a train wreck. And I can't wait to watch Palin-Biden - again, a train wreck.

McBush is trying to keep the story about his campaign manager being on Fannie Mae's payroll up until a few weeks ago off the front page.

All of McCain's stunts are an effort to keep this story off the front page:

McCain's Top Staffers Were Paid by Freddie Mac until Last Month

An article in Newsweek has now revealed that McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, was receiving monthly $15,000 checks until last month from Freddie Mac, the mortgage agency that the government recently took over. In addition, the head of McCain's transition team, William Timmons, Sr., was a registered lobbyist for Freddie Mac until this month according to an article on Bloomberg News. His firm received $260,000 this year for unspecified work. Although McCain likes to rail against lobbyists and how he will put them in their place, having his campaign being run by people who lobbied for Freddie Mac cuts to the heart of his pitch as a reformer. This story is soon going to be all over the place (see for example, Newsday, the NY Times, and Roll Call).

You forgot that on Tuesday he hadn't bothered reading the Paulson plan.

Great line heard on Oberman;

McCain, the gambler is making an all in bet on the stupidity of the American people.

Stephanopoulos: Paulson Fears Deal May Collapse

September 25, 2008 6:05 PM

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson fears the Wall Street bailout deal is falling apart after a chaotic White House meeting, sources say.

Paulson walked into the room where Democrats were caucusing after today's meeting at the White House and pleaded with them, "Please don't blow this up."

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chair of the House Financial Services Committee was livid saying, "Don't say that to us after all we've been through!"

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "We're not the ones trying to blow this up; it's the House Republicans."

"I know, I know," Paulson replied.

It's bad enough that a white collar crook and another "Heckuva Job Brownie" whose last job was CEO of Goldman Sachs was appointed by the Bush crime family to head the Treasury Department - but for this POS to act like he's some sort of dictator who shouldn't have to answer to Congress or the judicial branch?

Positively surreal!
