Default Watching NFL Replay Saints vs Broncos - Observations

The game is on NFL Network right now. I have been watching and damn Cutler was right they left a lot of plays on the field.

-Marshall dropped a sure catch on the 1 yd line.
-Harris whiffed on his block that caused the safety.
-The Defense, well they just whiffed.
-Although DJ Williams was the one who blew up the 4th and goal play right before the half.

-On Pitmans TD in the 3rd Quarter Clady had a nice block to seal the edge and open the lane for Pitman.

Will keep posting notes.

Nope Harris whiffed on his too. Go back and watch. They both blew it. AT least Kuper touched his guy. Harris just whiffed.

I'll have to look later tonight. Catching the later version of the Replay. Yes, the Replay's replay. I suck.

Harris has been incredible up to that point though. I don't want to believe it. I want to look away.

Eh it happens. I didn't like the call period. Should have just QB sneaked. Harris just got caught off guard. But you are right Kuper whiffed pretty much too. So they DL met at the QB.

Drew Brees is a damn fine QB. I know our Pass D sucks but he still makes solid decisions and throws.

Actually, Webster was the one who blew up the fourth down play. DJ just came in at the end and fell on the guy after Webster already knocked him down.

Cutler had an off game in my opinion. He missed several throws, and at times relys too much on his arm strength to gun balls into places he shouldn't be throwing. He was also slow in checking through his progressions. On the positive side, he still put together a decent game and we were still able to win.

The defense is just horrible across the board pretty much. DJ, Engleberger, Thomas, Webster, and Champ are the only guys I see giving a consistent effort on every play. That's only 5 out of 11 guys and they can't do it alone.

Also running a gimmick defense like we did in the first half is just laughable. We should really be ashamed of what we are putting out there on the field right now.

No way DJ came in late. If anything he and Webster both blew it up with Webster going low and DJ going hi. But DJ was not late on that play.

Yeah he was. Webster had already knocked him down.

Yep.

DJ had a nice game, but for all the Webster bashing we've all done... he deserves credit for making a great stop on that play. I honestly think he's played respectably now that he's back on the inside.

I'm very unimpressed with Boss Bailey thus far, though. I realize having no D-line makes their job difficult, but he's just sort of running around out there chasing stuff. Took a couple of very bad angles on Sunday.

I am not trying to downplay Webster but DJ was just as crucial on that play.

Boss was horrible on that 3rd and 11 when we were up 21-3. He couldn't make the open field tackle on Bush.

He really wasn't. The RB was already practicaly on the ground (and not going to make the goal line) from Webster's hit when DJ touched him.

Webster filled the hole and made the play.

Marcus Thomas had a huge part in the stop as well.

Dewayne Robertson made one hell of a hustle block.

Watch the block D-Rob makes on the Webster fumble recovery TD. What a hell of a block for a 300+ pounder.

I liked watching Champ run down with him trying to block like 3 different guys.

The play before the fumblerooskie before the controversial Webster, Williams 4th down stop Marcus Thomas did a great job engaging his blocker for the LB to come in and stuff the play.

I still want to know why we didn't just run a QB sneak on like the half yard line there.
But no, we hand it off to someone 5 yards deep in the end zone. Ugh...

Thomas is a baller. One of the few on the defense that I feel is giving it 100% on every play.

You saying Moss now, not DJ on the 4th?!?!?

(just a joke, I know what you meant)

it was still all webster!

I think that's a hindsight 20/20 thing. Questionable call? Maybe. But I don't think it was unrealistic to expect the right side of our line to hold up. I don't recall a play in any part of the year where 2 of our OL have been so badly destroyed on a single play.
