I have been reading some of the comments about young , etc ..... well it is hard for a back to get any thing going early , they need some runs to get warmed up etc ...... Hall averaged over 6 per attempt , young averaged over 5. no to shabby ......

Well, I think that it's just because when we post 41 points, we expect to our supposed feature running back to have more than 36 yards.
Having said that, I was fine with what I saw. |

We're going committee this year so there will be a lot of games like this. They were focusing on stopping the run early and that's part of why Cutler was raping them through the air. They "dared us to pass" and we're stronger in the air.

Another thing I liked about the game last night (and I have not seen this posted in the two dozen threads that have been created) is that the playcalling in the red zone was much more aggressive. The field goal that made it 10-0 shouldda been a TD (twice really, if you count the TD called back by penalty). |

Youngs not explosive period. Either because athletically hes less sharp due to the added weight which to me is not as likely, or what i think is the reason, he still isn't comfortable enough to run with authority; leading to hesitant choppy steps. The guy needs to pick it up fast because Hall is improving by the carry.

I'm on the fence right now - Raiders were dead last versus the run last year. Yeah we raped them in the passing game but I really wanted to see how we pounded the ball between the tackles to give me a better feel when we go against a real team.
SD should be interesting next week - they're not Oakland. I'm not sure we have enough at this point to beat them yet - they're still a tough team and we better find a stronger run game than we showed last night. |

Like I said in another thread, is there any possibility that the team wanted to get Hall playing early and often to keep his head in the game and not on the death of his mom. I'm mean, that's a pretty serious thing, right? And to have him not play would have been bad.

I thought Young and Hall both looked great, Pittman was good in his role as well. That is what we will be seeing with the RBs this season, role players. They will get time based on the situation, personnel group, etc... Unless one guy has totally got the hot hand it will be RBBC. Young is a better draw runner, whereas Hall looks to be better in the straight zone runs. Whatever, they are both great weapons to have.

Hall's just a better back, plain and simple. But... we'll see plenty of both.
Young has good hands, so that'll keep him working. |
