Oklahoma authorities are hunting for a man who killed a former Denver Broncos player last week.
Neal Richard Sweeney, a University of Tulsa star receiver who played a year for the Broncos in 1967, was shot in the head by an unidentified gunman who walked into his Tulsa office Thursday morning.
Sweeney, 63, president of Retail Fuels Marketing, a wholesale gasoline distributorship, died Friday at St. Francis Hospital, the Daily Oklahoman reported.
Witnesses told police a black male, 20 to 25 years old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a gray or black hoodie, blue jeans and white tennis shoes fled in a white unmarked cargo van after the shooting, the newspaper reported.
A native of Van Nuys, Calif., Sweeney was a star for Tulsa in the mid-1960s, earning an All- American honorable mention in 1965.
He was a sixth-round pick in the NFL draft. Sweeney was inducted into Tulsa's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.
