Default Alec's Thoughts

I dont have time to read all the posts and threads and for that I apologize if anythign I say has been mentioned already however I wanted to go over some things I noticed in this historic ass whooping tonight.

Eddie Royal is the first Denver rookie wide receiver who I have absolute confidence in. This guy is a supreme stud and I have doubted due to the regular hype that comes out of training camp for wide receivers. He catches the ball well, yes. That was not what I was most impressed with. He is football smart. Incredibly football smart. The reverse option to pass play where he had the option to run or throw and he threw it away is a 5 year veteran move and I **** you not I jumped up and screamed as if we scored a touchdown because I knew right then and there that we had a very special player. All night long this kid did amazingly smart things. His routes are refined as if he were Rod Smith out there (in that he runs them and can turn even great CBs around).

The offensive line was absolutely superb. Jokeland isnt the best defensive team in the league but they werent wretches either and Jay had all day to throw the ball. All day. I give a tremendous amount of kudos to those five/six guys protecting Jay. They did a fantastic job and Clady is everything a rookie LT could hope to be. He is, what everyone thought Robert Gallery was going to be and then some.

The run game was far better as a whole unit than I expected. Andre, Selvin and Pittman all ran hard. I expected as much from Andre and Pittman but even Selvin broke through tackles to get four, five and six extra yards. I know many here do not like the RBBC approach but this year we got one heck of a RB corps that next year is going to be difficult in determining who stays and who goes.

Jay was very impressive. I have been (fairly I might add) critical of Jay. Not because I think he couldnt do it, because I knew it would take time and I wanted to win now. Jay impressed me most not with his accurate throwing, but with his extremely wise decision making. Throwing it low even if its in the dirt, to a double covered guy is the sign of great improvement over what we have seen. His completions werent as impressive only because we have seen what he is capable of, but his decision making when things didnt go just right was absolutely superb. His improvement this year is outstanding.

Defensively I like what we did. There were some miscues yes, and the run D early was not effective but if we throw up 41 points on teams AFTER laying off then I really like our chancesin EVERY game this season. Once the D can tee off on opponents we got good pressure. We gave up some big plays yes, but thats OK too as long as we are making big plays and our defense showed more moxie in one game so far this year than they did all of last year.

Denver was the second most impressive team I saw this opening weekend (Philly was incredible) and that is saying something. There are a lot of great teams in the NFL and Denver I think just showed tonight that you better not think its an easy game at any point in time. The 3 Mikes even commented on the play calling (Dennison?) and the execution (Shanahan) tonigt and how it just was at every turn better than what the defense was prepared for.

We are still going to struggle against great offensive teams, but honestly with Marshall and Royal on the field combined with Cutler and the three RBs we are not going to struggle on offense even against the best defenses.

What a ****ing awesome blowout of the ****ty Raiders on opening night in front of the world.

Game Balls: Cutler, Royal, Offensive Line

I know you meant to mention Hillis.

Good roll-up, Alec.

Hillis was excellent. He had that one dropped pass but other than that I was impressed and extremely happy with our FB situation at this point in time. He block well and when he was handed the ball up the gut ran very tough from a much shorter distance. 4 and 5 yards a pop.

We got ourselves a complete offense.

Andre Hall deserves props for playing as well as he did on his heartbreaking day.

Good round up Alec.

Good notes. Another note on Royal. One of his most impressive plays to me was his last catch when he found the window in the defense for Cutler. Thats just natural football smarts, finding the soft spots in the D

I agree Rusty. I was saddened when I heard that and until you mentioned it I had forgotten about it but you are right, the fact that he was even out there gets him a game ball and he ran hard for us tonight.

Everything about Royals game last night impressed me. I mean everything about him. I even saw him get some good blocks in.

And the way he decleated DeAngelo "I am better than Champ" Hall made me ****ing smile all night long.

Agreed 100%. It was really out of this world. He was breaking Hall's ankles out there. It was just sickening. With Marshall, Royal and Scheffler, the only way we're going to run into trouble on offense is when we go conservative.

I was so impressed by that kid tonight. Truly an off the charts performance. SD's secondary is going to have a huge problem next week. Huge problem.

How good can Marshall make him? He got 146 with no other legit WR next to him in his first game in the NFL.

He is not Rod Smith Jr. he is a Steve Smith clone. Am I the only one that noticed he brings a pop to his run blocking?

Please...please..please do not waste time running the ball next week. I want to see the sky filled with footballs. We can light those b****es up really easily, please don't ****ing go conservative, Shanny. If we're aggressive and attacking in the passing game...put him in the Gun the whole night, I don't care. I have no problem at all engaging San Diego in a track meet. We'll run ESPN's greatest team of all time off the ****ing field.

The O is clicking.

Not only will Brandon be added to the mix....we have Ryan adding another dynamic after the first quarter of the season.

Denver will only get better on O this year.

Yeah that's who he reminds me of. Not a bad substitute. It's like Steve Smith without the temper.

Steve Smith's quickness, route running, and toughness makes him one of best WRs in the game. When I watch Royal thats what I see as well. Wait until he has a year in a NFL training and nutrition program he will come back a little thicker next year. The sky is the limit with this kid.
