Default Dre Bly

Pro-Bowler, Bust, or journeyman. Bly has 38 career interceptions, two pro bowls, and a Super Bowl ring. Champ has 42 career interceptions, 3 pro bowls. Are Bronco fans too hard or too soft on Dre Bly?

The most underrated player on the team, by a substantial amount.

CB is a position of risk and reward, when you try and make a read and make a play on the ball you may get burned. This has happened to both Champ and Dre. CB is also a tough position because the advantage is very cleary the receivers. So you can't always be mad when a CB doesn't make an int. or stop the catch, as long as they can make the tackle once the catch is made.

I think that this year will be a very telling year for just what kind of corner Dre is. He didn't look too hot in the preseason often playing 10 yards off the WR and getting burned more than once. I hope that this isn't indicative of the regular season, but we'll see.

Champ has more than three pro-bowls. Try three All-pro starts.

If our Dline holds up and we take on an attack mode with our entire D, he COULD really shine this year...

I am alway optimistic... especially this time of the year...

We really just need to blitz the living piss out of teams all year long and put the fate of the defense in the hands of Champ and Dre. They're being paid to win games for us, make them earn their checks.

Dre's run support is lousy but as a pure cover guy he's in the top 10 in the league. He'll make mistakes and get burned, but he'll also create turnovers if we get pressure and force throws to his side.

Overrated.

Not a bad #2 Corner but isnt complete, takes too many chances, bites hard on double moves and can be exploited on a regular basis.

Bly is a little bit better than Deltha O'neal, D.Will, or Foxworth....that's about it

I think bly would play well in a zone scheme (cover2) - he'll get beat on the short stuff - and since tackling isn't his forte - he could be a liability - however - i think his knack for the big interception is also key too. But his cover skills are good - but i think he gets faked out a bit too much.

He's not bad - he's def. above avg and is a great #2.

Cover 2 is more a safety designation, but a true base cover 2 keeps the corners up in the flats, requiring physical corners that can jam and funnel receivers and make the tackle like a slightly smaller OLB. That was what he played he last season in Detroit and the reason we got him on the cheap.

Hard to say based on last year. The defensive front was swiss cheese against the run and opposing WRs had all afternoon to run their routes. If Denver can at least slow down the run this year, Bly should be a lot more effective in coverage.

Right i got that on the cover2 - but i guess i mean him playing routes that he can time and jump on. Maybe i should have written it that way.

I just don't find him to be a "great" corner but - i know he has a sense of how to play the ball in the air.

cover 2 is perfect for athletetic corners that don't have to worry about a lot of contact. Traditionally Cover 2 corners line up 7 yards off the LOS and 2 yards outside the WR's outside shoudler. There is no jamming of the WR's in cover 2

I voted for journeyman, but imo the truth is he is an above average #2, but he is not a Pro Bowl level corner.

Although, I will be happy to have him prove otherwise this season.

I like Bly, I think he can produce well for us this year. He and Bailey had way high expectaions last year and I think this year might be a little different

I thought we should have made Champ a safety and put foxy and bly on the corners. Why not put your best player in a spot where he can affect the play regardless if it's to the left or the right? I'm not a defensive x and o guy but I've seen this work in highschool.
