Default 'Bandwagon Central' Granted 24-Hour Extension To Lift TV Blackout For Opener

Ron Burgundy taught me that "San Diego" meant "A Whale's Vagina." Apparently, the true translation is "Bandwagon Central."

Chargers granted 24-hour extension to lift local TV blackout for opener

SAN DIEGO -- Despite Super Bowl expectations for Southern California's only NFL team, San Diego hasn't exactly been overtaken by Chargers fever.

The Chargers were granted a 24-hour extension by the NFL on Thursday in an attempt to sell 600 remaining tickets and lift the local television blackout of their season opener Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

The Chargers, who fell one victory short of reaching the Super Bowl last season, have until 1:15 p.m. Friday to sell the remaining tickets.

"Our streak of 30 consecutive regular-season and postseason sellouts is definitely in jeopardy," Jim Steeg, the team's chief operating officer, said in a statement.

The Chargers can leave San Diego after the 2008 season if they pay off about $60 million in bonds the city issued in 1997 to expand Qualcomm Stadium. The team is conducting an analysis of how much it would cost to build a stadium in suburban Chula Vista.

lol, wouldn't want that prestigious streak to end. That's like almost two full seasons.

Sandy eggo is a place where people go to retire. There really is no fan base, other than the fans that support other teams. That is too bad, hey LT come play for the Broncos we'll be there to cheer you on

I know right? That was the crowning jewel of the article. I meant to bold it but forgot.

I thought there would be enough Carolina fans waiting to buy up the tickets.

Maybe the NY fans will buy enough tix week 3 so the locals can root for their 1-1 team.
