Default Palin Says Iraq Invasion a "Task From God"

Geeezus, why would anyone vote for these religious nuts? And last year she stated that it was "God's will" to build a 30 billion dollar gas pipeline in her state?

----------------------------------------------------------
Palin: Iraq war 'a task that is from God'
By GENE JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer 21 minutes ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."

In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."

Palin asked the students to pray for the troops in Iraq, and noted that her eldest son, Track, was expected to be deployed there.

"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."

A video of the speech was posted at the Wasilla Assembly of God's Web site before finding its way on to other sites on the Internet.

Palin told graduating students of the church's School of Ministry, "What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys." As they preached the love of Jesus throughout Alaska, she said, she'd work to implement God's will from the governor's office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets.

"God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she added. "But really all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."

Palin attended the evangelical church from the time she was a teenager until 2002, the church said in a statement posted on its Web site. She has continued to attend special conferences and meetings there. Religious conservatives have welcomed her selection as John McCain's running mate.

Rob Boston, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, lamented Palin's comments.

"I miss the days when pastors delivered sermons and politicians delivered political speeches," he said. "The United States is increasingly diverse religiously. The job of a president is to unify all those different people and bring them together around policy goals, not to act as a kind of national pastor and bring people to God."

The section of the church's Web site where videos of past sermons were posted was shut down Wednesday, and a message was posted saying that the site "was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days."

Yeah, it's kind of sad.

On another note.

Now, I'm from Montana so I've heard a lot of different names for children and it never really makes me think twice about it. But Track?

It's completely irrelevant I know but...I've never met anybody who named their children something like that that wasn't a bit off kilter.

Wow I've heard people calling the War in Iraq the 9th Crusade as a way to attack and be critical of the war. However, this nutjob would actually call it the 9th Crusade and be ok with it, yikes...

Sadly, yes.

Those would be the same mouth-breathing yokels who were willing to overlook Bush's horrible record in order to put a "man of faith" in the WH.

Palin: Iraq is a task ‘from God.’»

Huffington Post reports that on June 8, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) addressed the graduating class of commission students at the Wasilla Assembly of God church. During that address, Palin portrayed the Iraq was as a quest decreed by God, and said that U.S. soldiers were carrying out “God’s plan”:
Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.
During that speech, Palin also promoted a $30-billion natural gas pipeline project, stating, “God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built.”

The woman is certifiable. Karl Rove did say she was selected for the election and not for any purpose in a JM WH.

Libs, you can’t tell me that she is an amazing figure of God. Like Gov. Huckabee, she’s predestined by God. She’s has been saved (baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the precious gift of the holy ghost, I love her church and pastor). She is correct that Iraq is a task from God. We are there to liberate the Iraqi people, and this is what we our doing. I am so excited, and cannot wait to watch President Bush speak up close tonight. Awesome pick, Senator, awesome pick.

  8. Alectimmerman Says:
God wants a pipeline? Seriously? A Pipeline? It is on God’s agenda?
Someone out there please make a nice coherant post comparing Palin to Michelle Bachmann of MN CD 6. I am from the neighboring district, and they are bat**** crazy twins!

Sarah, you and your God can go straight to hell!

  10. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:
There has to be some logic in their choice of Palin. But, for the life of me I can’t figure it out. I really don’t think this is the kind of publicity they were hoping for during their convention.

Don’t get too close to Bush, the dullness might rub off. It appears the stupid has already penetrated your brain. Sorry to hear about that.
BTW: God does not do pipelines, not now, not ever.

  14. tom Says:
You know, as I was first learning more about Failin’ Palin, I joked to a friend that there was no such person. In actuality, Michelle Bachmann found out she was going to lose her re-election bid so she dyed her hair, changed her name and moved to Alaska.
I am beginning to think that I was right!

No, she said spcifically that the Iraq war is a "task from God." I don't care if she invokes God, but this sort of nutso thinking is part of what got us into this disaster in the first place. The fact that folks are actually praising her wild-eyed speech is troubling.

Yep.

The GOP realized they were not going to be able to attract enough moderates and independents to any ticket that included known players like Romney, Jindal, Joementum, et al, so they decided to fall back on their old faithful stand-by and to put out some fresh bait for the evangelical sheep (with the additional desperate hope that they might attract some disaffected Hillary supporters simply by putting someone who shared Hill's gender on the ticket.)

I can see why the religious right has fallen in love with her overnight, but I question whether all other conservative voters will follow suit.
