Josh Barrett (6-foot-3, 225 pounds) is a rookie from Arizona State University who was selected by the Broncos in the seventh round (220th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played in all four Denver preseason games in 2008, ranking fourth on the club in defensive tackles (11) and tying for third in special-teams stops (2). A two-year starter at Arizona State, Barrett attended Reno High School in Reno, Nev., and was born on Nov. 22, 1984. Mitch Erickson (6-foot-6, 290 pounds) is a rookie from South Dakota State University who entered the NFL with the Broncos as a college free agent on April 28. He appeared in all four preseason games for Denver in 2008 following a collegiate career in which he received first-team All-America honors from the Associated Press as a senior at SDSU. Erickson attended Hutchinson High School in Hutchinson, Minn., and was born on May 14, 1985. Darrell Hackney (6-foot-0, 248 pounds) is a second-year player from the University of Alabama-Birmingham who spent the final eight games in 2007 on Denver's 53-man roster after beginning that season on its practice squad. In four games (1 start) with the Broncos in the 2008 preseason, Hackney completed 24-of-38 (63.2%) passes for 285 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions (94.7 rtg.). A first-team All-Conference USA selection at UAB as a senior, Hackney attended Douglass High School in Atlanta and was born on Aug. 7, 1983. Steven Harris (6-foot-5, 305 pounds) is a second-year player from the University of Florida who entered the NFL with the Broncos as a college free agent on May 2, 2007. Harris, who saw time in all four preseason contests for Denver in 2008, played four games for the Broncos in 2007 and totaled six tackles (all solo). A member of the Gators' National Championship team in 2006, Harris attended Coral Gables High School in Coral Gables, Fla., and was born on Aug. 14, 1984. |

Makes you wonder if they aren't looking at players from other squads.

So 4 more spots. I'd think we'd want to add a WR to the practice squad since we are short in that area. We'll probably hold one spot open for a guy like Larsen...once Marshall comes back.

I'd also say that we'd do well to sign a RB to practice squad...if for nothing else but reps. Perhaps a CB as well:
1 - WR 2 - RB 3 - CB 4 - Spencer Larsen or Woodyard...once BMarsh comes back |

I know Lorne didn't do anything in preseason, but isn't he a physical beast that's played RB, WR, and QB through college? Seems like he'd be a talent worth developing...

It might be that we wont have to open up a spot for Marshall as the suspension for Paymah could be coming down at any time.

I think when Nalen's status is clear, one OL will be cut. Similarly when Elvis and Manuel are healthy, one DL and Rogers will be released.
I am surpised Den did not make a claim for a RB. Looks like Rankin signed with Oak, Marcus Mason with Bal and Marcus Thomas with Det. |

Well, he is to be sentenced by the Court on September 16th I think that might actually take care of the issue before the league intervenes. But if its just community service/fine (no jail time), then the league will probably step in with a suspension shortly thereafter.

Four spots open. I agree with others here that there could be some people cut and then signed, but I also think we add at least two guys who were cut from other teams after we bring them in for a look.

Is that in the CBA?

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/foo...yers/2188.html P.J. Pope Grade: 2.94 Position: RB Class: Sr School: Bowling Green Conference: Mid-American Ht., Wt.: 5-9, 218 40 Time: 4.5 Grading System BIO: Three-year starter awarded All-Conference honors as a sophomore and junior. Played in nine games last season posting 125/436/20. Career-best numbers of 178/1,098/15 came as a junior, with pass-catching totals of 50/490/6. POSITIVES: Nice-sized ball carrier who is best between the tackles. Displays good vision, finds the running lanes and has a burst. Sets up blocks, is aggressive and strong in his lower body. Solid receiver who makes the reception in stride. NEGATIVES: Not an elusive back who makes defenders miss. Lacks the speed to get around the corner. ANALYSIS: A leader by example who has made football a priority, Pope offers potential as a special-teams player/fourth running back in the NFL. PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent |
