Default Just a wild guess prediction!

Let me first say I did not see the game and don't really know what happened but I'm going to do what you shouldn't do and make an assumption. I saw on sportscenter that Rodgers was 18-22 passing the ball. I'm going to assume that the "Sackmaster" John Engleberger and the boys got little to no pressure. The two highlights I saw were JE locked up trying the 10 second bullrush on the TD pass to Driver and the classic DJ overpursuit to a rollout PA pass. I'm guessing the pass rush is the same as it has been over the past several years and I know it is if the sackmaster JE is in the lineup. Rodgers has looked crappy all preseason and looked like Farve against our D. I'm just making complete assumptions and could someone chime in and let me know the real story.

It wasn't so much that he had all day in the pocket to pass. He was pressured but Dre Bly and others played 5 yds off so they just did 3 step drops and dinked and dunked their way down the field. Also his stats are a little overblown because the first play the LB got totally taken out by the Ref and it led to a big play. Stuff like that just happen.

That said they still don't have a dominant pass rush and its going to be the achilles. But the run D is stout and the offense is top 5 quality.

To a degree you are right... Keep in mind come the regular season you are going to see a LOT of blitzing.

I wasn't really impressed with the offense tonight, they were just alright. Our pass defense definately has potential to be pretty poor, but at least our rush defense is looking really good. I'd rather have a better rush D than pass D, but I really hope this isn't a foreshadowing of our pass D for the regular seasn; if it is we'll get eaten alive.

it was a typical vanilla game plan 3 rd preseaon game , no stunts , nothing like that . doom exploded 1 play made a great sack , then stayed home on another disrupting a red zone pass on a bootleg ........ time we looked stout vs the run , other times we couldnt stop a renegade nunn sneaking out late to get chocolate fix ......... on offense , some surprises with the oline , but without nails , we wont be as smooth , as for RB , seriously it is still up in the air , i wouldnt be shocked to see RB by comity ............Royal is showing he can get off the LOS and get open , he is playing like a vet , Hillis probably will be starting Fb ........Oh and scheff is really coming around ,and Clady sealed off the corners very well tonight

An 8.29 drive isn't impressive? FG, TD, TD for Jay isn't impressive? Prater wasn't good? How so?

Its because he didn't go 12 for 12! Man some people on this board make me just want to scream. He might have had incompletions but he also made clutch throws. But the fan base thinks if he isn't absolutely perfect he sucks.

I know 99½ yard drive 8.29 minutes off the clock , 16 or 17play drive and a Td ...... complete control by our offense

Did we mention the 99 3/4 drive that had NO penalties for GB...the Broncos did it all themselves including two 3rd down conversions

The 99 yard drive was impressive. Mostly running made that work, and they had a good mix of run pass going on it and kept GB defense off stride..
1st drive to FG they helped us with penatlies, and the last one , 2 plays, both to Marshall, were made by Brandon...Cutler just threw it up, got the PI on the first, and the second Brandon got a little push off then caught thebobble for the TD. He won't get that single coverage very often in the regular season.

The offense as a whole was spotty, as Cutler really had an off night.
He was off target high most of the night and really we got a little lucky.

The defense was pretty poor. We never really Stopped the GB 1st string, although they made some mistakes that killed their own drives.

Rodgers looked all pro against us, and mostly it looked like last year out there...scrub QBs had a field day all last year and the same stuff tonight.
Vanilla or not Bly was a liability...they just threw it his way most of the first half and he obliged by whiffing on multiple tackles.

Run defense was okay, but not great.

Mostly I was really disappointed in the D, and the lack of rush was apparent.

time to step up the intensity of practice, casue the D still looks too soft out there!. Get it together guys, or it could be a LONG year!

The signs are there , only thing i would add is we really didnt stunt on defense , our blitzs were pretty vanilla , but will admit we did better running the ball then I though without Nails ....... but what impressed me the most is even when Cutler was off , our run game picked up the slack

Yes are pass rush is still quite poor.
Doom is the only guy on the roster than can consitently apply pressure.
However I thought the pass rush was halfway decent in the 2nd quarter.

Moss was not terrible tonight and he got some nice pressure at times in the 2nd quarter. Not sure why they couldnt do it in the 1st though.
But yeah our CBs were playing off the reciever so Rodgers just kept dumping it off to them and picking up first downs that way. Dre Bly was absolutely horrendous at tackling so I dont blame Green Bay for running those quick hitters over and over again.

Our run defense was stout in the first half.

You are right. They held back a lot tonight. Does anyone have some games from the 2005 season? That is the defense Denver will play when they play the Raiders. Denver will blitz 60-70% of the time I bet.

This team is much better than last year.

Yes, there are a holes. But Cutler's "off night" is still better than anything we've had since Elway. Marshall is simply uncoverable. The running game, while not TD, is solid. There were some great holes opened up tonight and the O-line pass protected well. Nate Jackson had a really good game - I can see why he's beating Sheff out. And that one play from Hillis to get the first down on the long drive was really special. Here's hoping that there's more where that came from.

Our defense is definitely the weak link. But you have to give some credit to the Packers. Rodgers looked good and you can definitely see why they went 13-3 last year. Yet our first team still beat their first team. Our secondary is still very good. Yes, Bly can't tackle. But he can cover and that's more important. And while it's strange not seeing Lynch out there, our safety play is definitely improved.

I thought Winborn had a really good game. He was near every play. We're not great on the D-line or at the linebacker position, but I think we can be average.

Special teams are still really weak - especially coverage. But at least Prater was putting kickoffs in the end zone. That can make up for at least some of the sins.

All in all, this is a better team than I expected. Combined with a favorable schedule, we're going to surprise the "experts" and the doom-and-gloomers this year.

Green Bay pretty much ran all 3 step drops and boot play action. Not very conducive to getting a consistent pass rush. When they took deeper drops our D got pressure including Dumervil's lone sack.
