Hi - I know us newer folks aren't supposed to start new threads, but I couldn't find this posted anywhere else... I did a search for a relevant thread to bump, and nothing came up, so please do not tear me limb from limb and scatter my bones from coast to coast like a wild pack of hyenas.
I'm really curious about how Hillis is coming along after some of the rave reviews at the start of camp. From a RMN article on Tom Nalen: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/new...est-preseason/ Opening eyes The Broncos have been known to use their fullbacks as a red-zone pass-catching weapon through the years, from Howard Griffith to Patrick Hape in an H-back type role, to Kyle Johnson. Rookie Peyton Hillis might not only continue that tradition but could expand upon it the way he has caught the ball since coming back from a hamstring pull. "I wouldn't lie. Personally, I think Hillis could fight for the best hands on the team," running back Andre Hall said. "In the running back room, I can't fight with him. I'm going to give him a run. But he's probably got the best hands among the running backs." Hillis set University of Arkansas records among running backs as a senior for receptions (49) and receiving yards (537). His talents were often used with him aligned as a slot receiver. Cecil Sapp still is running as the starting fullback but might eventually get pushed for that job once Hillis is conditioned fully and gets a total handle on the offense. "I'm loving Hillis," Hall added. "He don't really care. He'll hit whoever, and he keeps driving. Most guys hit and twist and turn their body. Hillis hits it right down the middle and is going to continue to drive throughout the entire play." |

I am not sure, but if its true, I am glad to see a big hitter full back. I know we had Kyle Johnson, but I am sick of seeing us convert HBs into FB's we did it with Cecil Sapp and Mike Anderson......GET A HUGE FULLBACK>

Sounds crazy but I think he has a chance to be a multiple pro bowler in this offense, Tony Richardson style. I hope he gets healthy and can stay on the field this season. I think he'll displace Sapp soon if he can.

Nice post. Hillis is the kind of FB we've been looking for. I hope he gets healthy and takes the starting spot, cuz watching Sapp block makes wanna throw my TV out the window most of the time.

Once Hillis gets a hold on the offense and is the full-time FB, you're going to see the Mike Shanahan offense as it was truly intended with the ability to run the football with power, use the FB and TE in the passing game and most importantly - an OL and QB capable of executing a drop-back passing game.
Shed no tears for Sapp who will still be a major contributor to the team as a reserve HB/FB and special teamer - the role he and Reuben Droughns filled well until each was asked to take on too much. As giddy as I can be about Clady and Royal, and while I also think Barrett and MF Williams could become contributors one day - I'm actually most excited about Hillis as we haven't had a FB like him in a long, long time. |

This draft class is looking better and better. Hopefully Lichenwhatchamacallit will come around and Powell when he gets back.
Good thread. If it wasn't I'd be laughing..... |

Hillis is in the mold of Griffith. This is the type of athlete that we have needed at FB since those SB years

Hillis once punch a whole thru the middle of a cow in the road instead of driving around it.
Honestly I would love a true nasty, in your face, wood laying, bust your chops FB and hope he is all hes cracked up to be. |

So far everything I've seen and heard about Hillis has been great. Hopefully we'll get to see some serious action out of him tomorrow night. If this guy is as good of a blocker as Andre Hall thinks him to be, thats all I need. If he can catch some ball on top of that, then super gravy! I've longed for a Howard Griffith to re-emerge on our team. Fullback is such an underappreciated position. |

I just wet my pants thinking about this years draft class. Frickin' Royal, Clady, Hillis, Torrain (assuming healthy), Jack Williams... All these guys are likely to be starting by the end of the season. I think its just unbelievable.
Man I hope we don't suck. |

I've wanted a real FB on this team since Griffith was forced to hang it up.
