Default Manning wants football to be an olympic sport.

I just came across this link: http://www.makefootballanolympicsport.com/

What do you think? I don't see it happening. It would just be one more gold medal for the US.

Argentina... Uruguay. I think Chile. (I mean... seriously, they all suck, but they do play and have a national team)

I think Japan? I'm guessing a bunch of European countries too.

Every player from every one of these countries would end up in one of the following ways:

1. Dead
2. Coma
3. Really Dead
4. Completely Broken In Half
5. Double Coma

Stupid idea. They are barely holding on to baseball and softball's getting the axe yet they'd have a football tournament. This guy's a moron.

Yes, probably. I've only seen Argentina and Uruguay and they are both TERRIBLE. The QB's especially... God they are AWFUL.

I could probably be Argentina's starting QB if I didn't hate 90% percent of the people who started the team. I could NEVER play for them... bunch of old ****ers.

Manning is a ****ing Idiot .........People over here start playing football damn near in diapers , dedicate their lives to a very complex game ........ Not many other places on the face of the earth do this ............. American football is just that American , we have the NFL E , but that is more of a money grubbing scheme to develop players for the NFL ........

Wouldn't it make more sense to have rugby be in the Olympics? How bout golf? I mean more people play these games and are decent at them in more countries around the globe than people who play football at an elite level.

I think it would be cool. I'm all for another gold medal for the U.S. Besides, the Dream Team was instrumental in making basketball an international sport. Unfortunately I don't see it happening.

Even if they played it, NFL players wouldnt be in it. The olympics are during training camp.

We need to build football fields in the countries we occupy, then maybe it'll near the worldwide popularity of baseball, and then we'd be about a century away from it being a universal sport fit for the olympics.

Football actually does have a bit of popularity around the globe. At least some interest. Anyone catch the stands at Wembley last year? It was packed. That game sold out in something like 10 minutes?

We are at minimum 50 years from having american football in the olympics IMO.
Nobody really plays or cares about outside the states. Heck, I bet mostly everybody wouldn't know who Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, LaDainian Tomlinson and Randy Moss are.

I agree with Manning. if BMX is an Olympic sport, why not football. Ping Pong is an Olympic Sport. the super bowl is seen by around a 100 million people every year, the sport is known worldwide. The NFL is being taken globally. The only reason it hasn't gotten a thought of being an Olympic sport, is because it would just be another gold medal that the USA got every 4 years.

World doesnt play American, and the injury risk is too high, even for college players.

Yeah but Argentina would have hot cheerleaders cheering on the sidelines.

Lack of interest was one of the reasons NFLE is no longer in existence. Except for the games in Germany, those stands were pretty empty at the end.

The biggest reason is that the US would struggle to field a team that doesnŽt consist of street free agents. The NFL surely wonŽt postpone the start of the season and the Olympics are usually held between July and September. Good luck convincing NFL franchises to send some players to the Olympics during the regular season or training camp.

"Mr. Kraft, this is the USOC, weŽd like Tom Brady to play for the US during the Olympics. YouŽll still have to pay his salary and youŽll be without him for the first 3 games of the regular season, but I am sure youŽll understand. Oh, and if he gets injured, youŽre screwed."

I say play. There are quite a few polynesian players in the NFL, so I can see perhaps some pacific island countries having decent olympic teams.

You are right about training camp. Maybe if they make it an under-23 tourney like soccer in the olympics, college players could go. Or hell, send the Arena champion. Make that league meaningful.

The Olympic soccer tournament is a farce and I doubt the Colleges would agree to let their players to go the Olympics.
