Let's get a running poll on who we think wins the punt battle! With two more games to play, both made big plays in clutch situations.
Sam Paulescu: The veteran who tackled the vile Pac Man and had a faster release, though he doesn't hold as well. He's a bit more accurate. ![]() Brett Kern: The noob that showed great awareness and athleticism when he picked up a blocked punt and ran it for a first down. He is the best holder, but his release is slower. His leg is stronger, but he's not as accurate. ![]() |

I always like it when a QB is the holder. Go with the Paulescu and have RAmsey practice holding

Paulescu tackled Pac Man? He gets my vote just on hearing that little tidbit...

It would give Ramsey some value. If you have a good punter and kicker, you usually want the Punter holding. Back up QB's rarely stay on a team more than three years. Specialists stay longer.

I'm hoping for Kern. He's younger and has the big leg. The fact that he's a good holder is only a plus. I'd like to see Prater and Kern for the next decade!
However, I voted for Paulescu. Why? He was with us at that end of last year and has competed well in camp. He really hasn't done anything to lose the job and he's not all that much older than Kern. My gut says...that Shanny etc. keep Paulescu. |

I voted for Paulescu, because his punt didn't get blocked. Shanahan is going to have a really difficult time forgetting that.
Of course I'm probably wrong. |

Let's flash back to the Nick Harris/Tom Rouen competition 5 or so years ago. The competition seemed neck and neck throughout camp and the preseason games. If anything, Harris might have had a slight edge in distance. The problem was, he also took longer to get his punts off. We all know what happened there....Shanny went with Rouen as a result. He could simply get the ball out faster.
If the same holds true here, Paulescu will most certainly get the nod. |
