Just heard Jason Whitlock say that Elway is the best football player ever and possibly the best athlete ever.
For a KC guy I love his stance on Elway. |

You make it sound like this is an opinion, as if an argument could be made for someone else being the best. You know what... I don't like YOUR stance on this subject. ![]() Ok I will go back to lurking now, have a nice day. |

Yah, Whitlock said (on Jim Rome's show) that Elway is the best football player, ever, in the NFL. His number two football player of all time is Jim Brown.
I think he also put Elway in his top 10 athletes of all time. |

He's also spoken out against Croyle. Obviously Whitlock knows a good QB when he sees one.

Whitlock is a dumb**** on the Croyle issue. He was preaching patience this offseason and goes off on Croyle because he threw a few dumpoffs in a preseason game. No consistency.

Bob is only consistent in his inconsistency...and complete lack of football knowledge.

Best QB ever yes.
Best football player? No. For my money Im going with Walter Payton in that regard. No offense to Elway, but Walter was superior as an overall athlete. Superior to Jim Brown. He ran against much stronger and faster defensive players and still made them pay. And if he is not the best football player ever, he cant be the best athlete ever. But hey, to each their own. |

You can disagree all you want but Walter Payton > John Elway as an overall athlete. He too did it all on the field. And golf is not a sport. Its a game. I play golf, its not a sport. The only thing needed for golf is eye-hand coordination. If that makes it a sport then video game playing is a sport. It, like golf, is not a sport. If John was so good in baseball, he is the biggest idiot ever. Baseball pays more and you can play it longer and he chose football? No, he would have been a marginal baseball player. He wouldnt have made the pro's at basketball. No where near quick enough. I dont mean to bash the duke. I loved Elway as much as any Bronco fan ever but this is borderline retarded. He isnt the best athlete ever. He isnt even close to the best athlete ever. |

Your simplistic view of what does and does not make a great athlete, not to mention your attempt at deciphering why Elway decided to play football over baseball is laughable at best. the Yankees had Elway pegged as a .300/30 HR outfielder with a rifle arm in RF, which is the reason they used a 2nd rounder on him- even though everyone knew his heart was in football. He simply used the Yankees as leverage against the Colts. In other words, the Yankees were willing to waste a 2nd round draft pick on Elway just on the whim that he would have a change of heart and play OF for them. Marginal player? MLB scouts hardly thought so. If there was no chance of John Elway playing in the NFL, he would have been a 1st round MLB draft choice. Your argument holds no water, and I would submit that John Elway should indeed be considered one of the best athletes of all time. Walter Payton was a superior runner, of course. But John Elway was a superior thrower, a good enough runner (watching him outrun Dexter Manley was a thing of beauty) an excellent hitter and fielder by baseball standards.
