in the interview he did on being with pats he says they may play him at LB some ... could we have not done that as a stop gap till we get some better LB play

I don't think so. Lynch was best where he was - an in-the-box safety type, filling the 8th man role. Being farther back field allowed him to see the play develop and react better than he would as a linebacker.
Maybe, in New England, he gets an increased role by playing safety in base packages and LB in nickel packages. I'm kinda talking out of my ass here though, defense is by far not my "specialty." |

I dont think Lynch can take on OL and FB consistently at all. If they can get him a free run at the QB then yeah, it might work...
