Screw the Olympics and screw China. They should have never awarded them the games. Oh, yeah screw the Chefs, Chuggers and The Faid while we're at it.

Not a big Olympics guy but I hope that everyone that is enjoys them. There's thousands of hours of HD programming available spread over 8 different channels, should be a good time.

I miss when McDonalds had the game that when the US won the event on your card you got free food. A gold was a sandwich, a silver was fries and bronze was a drink. I remember lots of free burgers in '84.

Sorry... what? I can't read your posts...something is distracting me...

I mean, at least the US mens team won their soccer game, unlike the chicks.

Krusty continues his promotion -- just scrape off the name of the event
from your game card that comes with the sandwich and if America wins a
gold medal, you win a free burger! -- then takes a bite of a sandwich.
"Mmm!" End of commercial.

Krusty: Blech! [spits the burger out] Oh, I almost swallowed some
of the juice.
[drinks from his flask] , I'll be tasting that for
weeks.
Accountant: Great spot, K. C.
Krusty: Put a sock in it, preppy. How much are these free burgers
gonna cost me?
Accountant: Not to worry, Mr. K. We've rigged the cards: they're all in
events that Communists never lose.
Krusty: I like, I like.
Woman: This just came over the wires, Big K.
Krusty: [reads] Uh-huh. Soviet boycott. U.S. unopposed in most
events. How does this affect our giveaway?
Accountant: Let's see. [calculates] You personally stand to lose $44
million.

I can't wait for the water polo! Or the doped up sprinters. Actually, the only fun to be had at the Olympics will be watching some uniformed Chinese agent smack Bob Costas upside the head every time he says something unacceptable. "Dere is no pollution!" Smack! Hopefully, Bush barfs on somebody to liven things up. It's time he lived up to the example his father set.

my best friend from high school is in the olympics this year. He is running the 800. So if you watch it, cheer for Christian Smith. Here is his qualifying race it was unreal he had to dive at the finish to make it. He is the one that looks like Jesus.

I am not sure how to embed it, but here is the link.

I think he had a 1:44 last year but within the last year he had a life threatening illness that he had to have several surgeries on. His appendix burst and they mis diagnosed it and then they found a lump that had to be drained inside of him. He is just now starting to get back into form. I think he ran a 1:45:50 or something like that at the trials

The Opening Ceremony was a tad bit too long, but very impressive overall. Especially the first hour.

Did they crush Tibetian Skulls and then hand out toys with deadly amounts of lead paint on them?

Sorry I am not political but China and NK scare the bejesus out of me.

I love the games. As a former Tracker myself, I love watching these guys hit times and long jump faster and further than I could only imagine. And I'm a huge supporter of the "Redeem Team". USA!

Let us have one rule at least in this thread. That would be that Angryllama or any euro ie Jens cannot discuss soccer in this thread. Ping pong, tetherball, hopscotch and lead poison dodging are all free play before soccer can be discussed. Now if you excuse me, I got some skeet shooting to watch on ESPN OCHO.

they are actually still feeling the profit effects of 1984 with the USSR dropping out. On the positive side, they continue the contest but will not have to worry about giving out millions of free food. They are sponsoring the Canadian Olympic team this time around.

I would love to watch the games, but the smog seems to be getting in the way of the picture.

That is cool, good luck to him.

My brush with Olymipic Greatness was that the Great Jim Spivey graduated from the same HS as I did a couple of years before I did.

Our coach had a couple of "Jim Spivey" runs we had to do in Cross Country, yes I was too small for HS Football.

I hated them as they had hills if I remember right.

Anyway I way I found some justice in watching him run dead last in 1992? Olympics I think it was the mile?...

That opening drum sequence was actually scary, how they got that many people to do it in perfect synchronization i dont know. With that in mind, it was probably trumphed by 2000 people performing Kung Fu around a LED screen the size of a football stadium.
